Pro Impeachment DUers: Log your call to Mr. John Conyers here!
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 01:21 PM by sfexpat2000
Snip with contact info provided by David Swanson, my report follows:

"Congressman John Conyers' telephone, by many reports, rang endlessly on Monday, approximately 60 times per minute, or as fast as people could get through. The same thing appears to be happening today (Tuesday).

If you try to get through at 202-225-5126, chances are you'll hear a busy signal. Other times it will simply ring forever until a recorded voice tells you "Your party is not answering, please try your call later." Some people have had better luck by calling the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-224-3121 or through one of the toll-free numbers that activist groups use, and asking to be connected to John Conyers' office. Others have just run into busy signals that way too.

If you are lucky, you will get through to a staffer, and by all reports they are very, very cheerful staffers glad that you called, no matter where in the country you live.

Emailing the Congressman is out, because he has stopped accepting Emails, at least at this address john.conyers@mail.house.gov. I could tell you some of his staff members' Email addresses, but then they wouldn't be able to work for a week.

Faxing the Congressman is very much in, but you have to set your fax machine to repeatedly redial until it gets through. The fax number is 202-225-0072.

You can also try these alternatives. Call Conyers' Judiciary Committee office at 202-225-3951. Or call his Detroit, Mich., office at 313-961-5670 or his Trenton, Mich., office at 734-675-4084."

* * *

I called Mr. Conyers' DC office and got right through.

I told the staffer that I wanted to thank him for meeting with the anti-war, pro-impeachment fasters on Thursday.

Also asked, how can Mr. Conyers believe we can impeach Bush/Cheney at the polls when he knows the state of our elections? When the Republicans are kicking legit voters off of the HAVA mandated voter reg databases and when they have set up vote caging operations all over?

The staffer said Mr. Conyers was aware of the vote suppression efforts and has detailed a team to monitor them. (Well, that is good news.)

The staffer also said that is no reason to give up on the election process and I said, that's right. This state of affairs means we have to fight for clean electons AND to hold Bush/ Cheney accountable.

The staffer said Mr. Conyers was concerned that should he start the impeachment process, all his resources would have to go there, and that the Republicans would put up a massively funded counter offensive.

I tried to point out that there is always a mssively funded Republican counter offensive, no matter what we do, but I don't think the point got across.

I repeated my support for Mr. Conyers, let my name and address and rang off.

3. this is such bullshit
he has had since Nov 06 to institute impeachment hearings & he hasn't done it. how many times do the people have to tell him to do it before he actually does it? how many americans need to scream about impeachment before something is actually done? the people have been talking and calling. he just hasn't been listening.

what a load of crap. he can call himself because i'm tired of talking to him.

13. I got through, then was put into a voice mail line when I said I wanted to give my opinion

on impeachment. "This mailbox is checked frequently."

Right..............

Still, left my details and asked Rep Conyers to uphold the Constitution and start impeachment hearings against both Bush & Cheney.

17. I called Chairman Conyers DC office yesterday about 11:45 a.m. ET
(not for the first time) stated my name, spelled it and restated that as an American citizen it was imperative for Chairman Conyers to proceed with the impeachment process of Richard B. Cheney.

Staff requested and was given my zip code.
