TAMPA, Fla. (NEWS CENTER) -- When Brian Sterner was booked for a traffic violation in Tampa Bay last month, he couldn't believe what happened next.

Sterner broke his neck almost 14 years ago and is a quadriplegic.

Sterner, who can drive, was arrested on a traffic violation. When he was booked into the Orient Road Jail last month, Sterner couldn?t believe what happened.

He says a deputy looked at him and didn?t believe he was a quadriplegic. She walked behind him, took the handles on the back of the hospital-grade wheelchair and dumped it forward.

The article continues.....
"Deputy Charlette Jones, who dumped Sterner, has been relieved of her duties without pay pending the outcome of an investigation. She has not officially been terminated."

They have seen the videotape - what else needs to be investigated?

Terminate her already!

Colorado Family Institute

etc.

But other than that CO is a beautiful state with breathtaking scenery and some wonderful people.

22. Buffy Gave Some Good Reasons
Colorado dislikes this straight man's gay friends, for another.

Another friend, driving in Colorado in a passenger car with California plates, was forced off the road -- safely, into a parking lot, I'm happy to say, but at an unsafe high speed-- by a tractor trailer bearing Colorado plates. The truck's driver, through his air horn & finger pointing, made it clear that it was my friend's place of origin to which he objected. He tailgated my friend at high speed on dangerous roads, & refused, until the very last second, to let my friend back into line after an aborted attempt to escape him by passing the car ahead. This nearly instigated a head-on collision. The driver was pointing at the California plates & giving my friend the finger all the while.

My friend's friends in Colorado say there is a great deal of resentment toward Californians, who are apparently thought to be buying up all the good real estate & altering that good ol' Colorado way of life, & that it would perhaps be wiser to rent a car next time. Whatever, says my friend. There won't be a next time.

I did a cross-country trip myself, years ago. I thought Idaho, around the Snake River, was one of the most beautiful places I saw. But I'll never go there again. Too many White supremacists for my taste, thanks.

I'd love to see the home of the Delta Blues, too, but I never will. Too many people like me -- I don't necessarily mean Black, which I'm not -- have been lynched in places like that.

I also do my best to avoid putting any money into those states' economies.

26. The days of loathesome California hatred were at their peak when I was a kid
I think they have mostly passed and we've all become adjusted to each other. I doubt you'd have any trouble being from California these days. I have to say that it's really a new day in Colorado. The clouds of RW nuttery that set in heavily over our state in the early 90s seem too have parted and people with real ideas are being elected instead of people with narrow agendas. Lo and behold, people are finding out that Democrats won't bite them...

I hope you'll give us another chance in the future. Nowhere's perfect, but it's not the days of Ammendment 2 anymore in the square state.

...& thought it was a nice enough city. Reminded me of Hartford back when Hartford was a nice enough city. Passed through the mountains at night, so I know they make your ears pop, but that's about all. I've been told they're truly something to see.

FWIW, the traffic incident I related happened two, three years ago.

by this deputy's incredibly inhumane act. There are good people in every state. There are also assholes in every state and the news focuses on assholes, not on all the people who work hard, are good to their family and friends, do volunteer work, contribute to charity, etc.

40. Indeed
But there's always questions of odds & probabilities, prevailing community standards, worst case scenarios, etc., especially in terms of clueless out-of-staters visiting unfamiliar areas. I visited Florida once, & had a reasonably good time, even though I'm more of a mountain & lake vacationer than beach & ocean. I remember the t-shirt worn by one of the folks I was visiting: it had a large image of a revolver & a hand holding it, muzzle pointed straight at the vieweer. The tagline read: "Florida: See It Like A Native."

I do agree life should be lived on a case by case basis, & there are more horse asses than there are horse everywhere in this mean old world, but still, I hope to avoid sticking my finger in the fan too often.

17. Looks like felony assault, to me.
Of course, we all know that no charges of any kind will ever be filed here. Murder these days barely warrants a suspension for those working to protect the state.

When will people ever wake up to the fact that it is not their job to protect us. They serve the government, only.

46. well, yea
in the case of someone classified as a quadrapeligic, I think I do. If you have zero mobility in your legs and impaired mobility in your arms, I question your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle at speed. If you are doing with your hands alone what takes me two hands and two feet, I think you should have full mobility in those hands. Sorry.

The deputy who dumped the guy has been suspended without pay, but she's still on the force for now. Her three supervisors have been suspended with pay. Yeah, like that's a real punishment.

That pig who dumped the man on the floor not only should be fired but should be charged with assault. And the other people who stood by and watched this happen need to lose their jobs as well. I'm sorry, but it's NOT a matter of training. Anyone who shows the lack of judgment and exhibits such blatant cruelty has no business in that job.
