Christian law firm sponsors 'Day of Purity' event

A Christian law firm is helping public school students nationwide celebrate Valentine's Day by taking a stand for purity.


For the fifth straight year, Liberty Counsel is sponsoring the "Day of Purity." The initiative encourages Christian students to make a public commitment to remain sexually pure until marriage. Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, says the campaign encourages students who want to resist a culture in moral decline.

"Each day in America alone, 8,000 teens will be infected with a sexually transmitted disease, and two-thirds of the 10 million new cases of STDs this year will be among the 14- to 25-year-old age group," he informs. "Between 1994 and 1998 the rate of teenage girls contracting HIV rose almost 117 percent -- and STDs are not the only issue. Over one-million teenage girls will become pregnant this year."

Staver hopes that when teens stand up for purity, others may follow their example. Liberty Counsel's website has a "Day of Purity" planning guide and other resources for the initiative

5. In theory... I don't have a problem with this

I have four daughters, the oldest starts 6th grade in March (We live in Korea so our school year is March to February).

I think it's a good idea to encourage children NOT to have sex before marriage.

I recognize that some don't wait until marriage and I accept that.

The problem I have with this particular event is the group sponsoring it because I'm sure it will turn into a Christo-fascist celebration.

We tell teens, "Don't drink. But if you drink don't drive."
Why is it so wrong to tell them, "Don't have sex. But if you do. Use a condom."

With Abstinence Only sex "education," it's "Don't have sex. And condoms don't really work so don't bother."

7. Make the children bear a burden

That is against the very construct of their physiology, rather than teach them that this is a time to begin to grow up as responsible sexual beings. To teach that we are other than that by nature is to teach nothing that will benefit.

It has to start there. Sexual impulses are natural, wonderful things. They, like all other things in life, need governing and structure. That is real sex education.

Without it we condemn our children, and theirs, to be fearful and ignorant of things they should instead express, share and celebrate as an expression of love.

Let's just pretend that if we tell teens to not have sex, and refuse to teach them about birth control they just won't do it. Yeah, that works. :crazy:


"Abstinence Only" sex-ed has been an utter failure. It's based on lies and harmful misconceptions that harm teens. That's why schools across America are refusing funding for it.

Hey Pure Ones -- how many of your little boys contracted HIV? How many of your little boys KNOCKED UP those little girls who got pregnant?

Virgin birth only happened once, and that was in the Bible. So which of the little Cristian boys forgot to wear a condom?

Betcha the Dads of the boys aren't putting the heat on the boys to stop doing what they are doing.
