70 year old woman's heart attack leads to Iraq deployment

I was talking to an acquaintance the other night. We have never been "friends", but because of mutual committments, we do speak occasionally. The talk is always more or less just pleasantries (there is a "history" between us..and most has involved some verbal head-butting)..

anyway..

I always try to take the high road so I asked how she & her family had been..

That's when the tears started..

She had been caring for an elderly aunt who had finally passed away a few weeks ago, and I consoled her ..but that was not why she was crying..

They have twin sons, aged 30-something. One was airforce, the other army.

The army one finally was able to get out of the miltary but the other once was stationed in England.

His mother in law had a heart attack, and the wife is an only child, so he put in for a stateside emergency transfer...granted..

they are now in Texas somewhere, and the other day he got notice that his unit is likely to go to Iraq..

He's a twin and they HAVE a set of twins and 2 other little kids, and because they came back to the US, he's likely to have to leave the family to go to Iraq.

I told her that as an Air Force guy, he'd probably be safe, but it's just the idea of iit all..

She's not a close friend, but it's still sad that a humanitarian effort on his part, "could" lead to his death....and more heartache for his family..

or they might put him on the ground with an m-5 or m-16 because the grunts and gyrenes are running short of men.
