A possible solution to recovering our country
I give a lot of thought to the state of our political system and how we could fix things. It seems that with every step forward we, as a country, turn around and start running the other direction. Our best candidates are shunned by the media and we have no real voice. There are many who seem to believe that as long as we don't give up we can fix things. After going through severe bouts of negativity towards the democratic process I finally was able to see things in a more positive manner.

First, we must accept that the media is not our friend and it will continue to support what is in its own best interest, which is not what is best for the people. This means that the only way to get the good people in high office is through massive grass-root campaigns. But how do we accomplish such a feat? Here is my solution:

1 - We must find someone who can speak to inspire and who is willing to sacrifice the next eight to twelve years of their life in order to accomplish the goal. This person must have a squeaky clean past that no amount of research will uncover nuggets with which to bring him or her down. This is the person we will build to be president.

2 - We must find other people to fill every senate seat and every house seat along with a vice president. These can all be found during the build up.

3 - The build up is to a set election at some point in the future. Say 2016.

4 - A core group would begin speaking at high schools and junior highs throughout the country. Students today tend to not give a shit about politics. Most young people don't. A major part of this is a feeling of powerlessness in the process and lack of voice in the government. These assemblies would educate the students and explain the plan. This would be done every day, multiple times a day at different schools. It would be a lot of work. This would accomplish educating the youth BEFORE they were ready to vote about what was going to happen. Seeing someone speak in person is much more powerful than on the television. By doing these speeches and teachings we could reach a huge segment of the voting population by 2016. And the youth would remember. Many would join in when they saw the power of a force of people united behind a good goal.

5 - As time went on the various people who would run for senate would do the same things. The youth would know these people and remember. It would always be stressed that on X day, 2016 there would be an election and these are the people who are going to change things.

6 - Progressive support would skyrocket as the viability of this came to be. The media would try to smash it and the bad guys may even try to assasinate the leadership. In any case, we would have to soldier on and finish the job. It would lead to a one day takeover of the government by the true progressives. The senate would take an additional four years or so but would probably be easier after the initial blow was struck.

Now I ask, is this viable? Are people willing to sacrifice their lives to rebuild this once great country? I believe it is possible. I can't really see this happening as it is a huge sacrifice by a ton of people that would not see any major results for many years. It is nice to think about, though...and it would work if done correctly.

Otherwise we are looking at only negative ways out of this mess. An all out world war that we lose somehow or the complete collapse and revolt of the middle class who aren't afraid of being gunned down by the fascist military when they take to the streets.

1. Only 4 views?
I am bumping this because I would like some sort of feedback and am somewhat surprised that it only garnered four views.

3. You put a lot of time and effort into this
But I can't get past your first few paragraphs without shaking my head.

The media is never going to acknowledge "our" golden candidate with the perfect past, present and future. If Edwards for example, couldn't win shit cause he was completely shut down, then we will never be able to build on anything. He is intelligent, squeaky clean, speaking about all the issues that matter to Joe America, perfect family and story line, yet he was shut down by everyone. I believe it's a bi-partisan effort on the part of the media/behind-the-scenes-players to ensure that their agenda, their people, their tightfisted control is never broken again - ever.

I don't think America/us/the people will ever be able to restore it's democracy - a true democracy - by being nice anymore. The big players laugh at nice. They would take 2016 (your example date) as their date to truly smash us, the people, they would work their asses off to ensure they destroyed us on that date. The big players have been working (imho) since Kennedy was killed to create the situation we find ourselves in today. GW Bush is just another cog in THEIR goal of total control, greed, and power. They are almost there and I believe it's taken both Dem and Rethug participation to get to this stage of deep rot (yes, I believe a core group of power Dems are as corrupt as the Rethugs).

I am honestly beginning to think this country needs another revolution whereby the players are afraid of the people. They don't fear the electorate anymore - we hardly matter as they manipulate vote counts, the media, financial markets etc. We have to make them FEAR us, then they will listen and MAYBE we have a chance.
