Waxman is a self-centered prick conducting a show hearing for attention.
I'm sorry if I don't think some stupid motherfuckers taking steroids is a national emergency, in light of the fact that we've got a President in office who probably authorized torture.

If these baseball players want their balls to shrink, that's their own stupid fault.

I'm sick and fucking tired of so much news and attention being focussed on brain dead idiots who are candidates for missing link, in many cases.

I'd love to live in a country where this was the most important thing going on, but I don't.

We've got war criminals running this country!

Even if they investigate and find no evidence for impeachment, they should AT LEAST be investigating this, and THAT investigation should be TOP priority!

But oh no, we're watching that overgrown rat conduct a show hearing.

This is why I think our whole system is a crock of crap! We must always remember that WE THE PEOPLE are the Democratic Party, not these attention seeking assholes!

:grr:

Granted, it isn't as a high a priority as the war and such, but there's way too much money involved to ignore it.

show serious hearings, but this is considered news? I don't blame Waxman; I imagine he'd like nothing better to concentrate on real issues.

9. Oh yeah, we forget who is in charge of the hearings.
I think he schedules them, maybe his staff, right?

The news media is awful, as you said, for not covering more serious ones.

21. What business does the government reform and oversight committee...
have conducting an investigation into steroids?

Isn't it supposed to be looking at the government?

To my knowledge, all the proposals to regulate the industry are going to be done by MLB, not the government.

28. Major League Baseball has a federal antitrust exemption
Reading over your comments, it's clear that you don't have a clue why this is happening, and this is hardly the time or place for your education on the subject. Suffice it to say that Major League Baseball has one of the biggest antitrust exemptions ever granted by the federal government, and oversight of their activities is part and parcel of that ongoing exemption.

Waxman is doing his job. I'm sure there are other matters that require attention, and I'd sure like to see those matters addressed, as well. But this definitely comes under the purview of Waxman's committee.

31. Well Stated
That's exactly the point. The "up and up'ness" of MLB as a business is the responsibility of the oversight committee given the ATL exemptions.

Once the Mitchell Report's veracity has come into public question, the committee needs to know if this business, with that exemption, has its house in order or not.

13. BS. Waxman is one of the few Bush critics from day one.
1. He is tireless in his pursuit of holding people accountable.
2. He inherited this investigation from Tom Davis (R-VA).
3. While you may not care about baseball, it is a major business. Shouldn't it be free of corruption?
4. Most importantly, teenagers in this country are dieing from steroids. Would you want to tell their parents this isn't an important issue?

18. Yeah:
1. He is tireless in his pursuit of trying to get attention, so he plays up what bullshit will work to get it. He is, after all, a politician.
2. He has the power to stop the investigation and redirect the resources to more important issues.
3. Baseball is a business of entertainment, this is like asking whether or not professional wrestling is fake. I think it's pretty clear that most normal human beings do not increase their shoe size after a certain age, and it's kind of odd that two people would come along to break home run records at the same time. We should have had more common sense.
4. I fail to see how this investigation stops teenagers from taking steroids.

27. Yes, I do.
I'm really at a loss to see how it is possible to punish them by going after the pros. Unless there is a threat to them for using it, they probably won't. I doubt they're using these steroids because they see MLB players using them. They're probably doing it to get ahead in their own local sports, and the vast majority will not go pro.
