I don't know how, I don't know who it benefits, but the answer is ALWAYS money.

2. It affects a lot of kids, for one thing, and is also related to violence issues |
|
There are support groups for women whose husbands or boyfriends are steroid users because it can sometimes lead to cases of assault.
I actually think it is an important issue.

7. Democrats investigate baseball, Republicans investigate same-sex marriage... |
|
Same reason.
Hey, at least Democrats don't marginalize a whole minority with their pandering.

Congress has in the past promised the MLB a monopoly on baseball. That is, there will never be a competing league. Now they're trying to find some value in what they've done by trying to exert some authority over their actions.

12. Baseball is a legal cartel not bound by antitrust laws |
|
See: http://espn.go.com/mlb/s/2001/1205/1290707.htmlCongress is always involved in the intricacies of the MLB, but this steroid abuse issue transcends just baseball. Besides, the publicity is great for getting your face on TV for free, solid gold if you're a politician.

because there's a war on that we're losing (two wars, actually) and because the economy is in the shitter and people are dying every day for lack of affordable health care
so by all means let's pick on people who used technology to improve their bodies so that they could be at the top of their sport, some americans just aren't happy until the "strivers" are dragged back down to their level because if they can't succeed why should anyone?
i'm thinking of belize, where i was told, yes, we know what they have said about marion jones, but she is a hero to us who has made a difference, and that's what's really important
i think you have to be fairly mean-spirited to grudge an athlete willing to put his or her own health at risk to be the best, if we aren't willing to do what it takes to be the best, why tear down those who are? just doesn't compute for me
i assume clemens used steroids, hell, i assume most of them did, and so what? they are setting a trap to jail and destroy him, as they did with jones, and why really? petty mean-spirited envy, in my view!
