3. Speaking as someone who has been served pot in food without being told before
I can understand why he's pissed.

That can be an extremely uncomfortable experience.

8. Pissed is one thing... stupid is another...
Except for the 92-year-old noted in this thread, I've never, ever heard of anyone dying from pot.

I've seen people eat it without knowing... one woman went to the ER and the doctor on duty said she was having an anxiety attack, that her blood pressure was way low and she was under too much stress... sure doc, whatever.

13. he always told us stories about picking pot as a young man
along the railroad tracks in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas...it had been brought north by the Mexican laborers who were hired by the Santa Fe Railroad to build the track beds...

9. Just to play devil's advocate for a moment ...
suppose that the weed kicks in at the same time that he has respond to a hot call. He's got a gun, and whomever he's facing also has a weapon. It's not outside the realm of possibility to suppose that someone just might catch a round.

12. Pot doesn't cause hallucinations or impair judgment in that way.
Which is why they must look at your pee-pee to tell you've been using it. Otherwise, one of them! might be able to walk amongst us, completely undetected!

15. Pot affects different people differently.
I'm unable to do many of the things I normally can when I'm high. It has a very potent affect on me. I certainly wouldn't want to be driving around in my car when the delayed reaction of a pot brownie (or burger) hit me.

People who spike other people's food with drugs without telling them are fucking douchebags of the highest order.

Those two guys should have went to jail, IMO.

And no, I don't agree with the officer that someone could have died, but that doesn't change the fact that what they did was extremely stupid.

16. I repeat: pot does not cause hallucinations or impair judgment in that way.
And aspirin effects people differently too. Nonetheless, pot does not cause hallucinations or impair judgment that way. :hi:

17. "In that way."
But it does impair your reactions, which is a major problem for someone driving around. Particularly when they don't know they've been drugged.

I hate to see this kind of activity minimized by people. These guys spiked someone's food with drugs. That is a MAJOR violation of someone else's rights. MAJOR.

I'm all for responsible drug use, but fuckwads like these two really make it harder on the rest of us and I wish they had been punished more severely.

28. One problem with your assertion.
THC is a hallucinogenic. Granted it's a mild hallucinogenic in comparison to LSD. But it still a hallucinogenic.

11. Well, he was driving a car I assume.
Operating a motor vehicle stoned is more funny than dangerous only if you know you're intoxicated--paranoid giggly potheads stopping the car 30 feet before the intersection and all that. But obviously the slowed reaction time and loss of eye-hand coordination for a (I'm guessing) infrequent user who doesn't know he's been spiked is pretty dangerous, particularly if the guy has a job where he might have to go on a (no pun) high speed chase at a moment's notice.

Also, the suspects he arrests could die laughing when he mirandizes them: "You, like, have the right to an attorney, man. Like, wow. And whoa... the right to remain like silent, dood, I can see my tongue."

24. This would be why NORML et al can't make headway
The propaganda has grown roots, sprouted, and blown its seeds across the land. The only possible counter to this is a well-respected, long-lived American Institution (the AMA comes to mind) coming forward to tell the unadulterated truth about marijuana, no matter how hard it might be for law enforcement to see the country hear it.

There are too many people who accept Authority's words as truth (even here on DU!) who have swallowed the line our government has fed the country for nearly a century regarding this plant for anything but the largest possible salvo of truth to have any effect. "Pot can kill you" only proves my point.

25. I had a friend that would break out in hives anywhere bud touched her body.
She could smoke it with no issue, she just had to have someone else load the bowl. I would assume ingesting it would probably not be a good thing for her.

26. spiking anyone's food with anything, esp. something they wouldn't want, & without their knowledge..
is never cool.

if it's something he's not used to, he could get "scary" high...it happened to my wife once when she ate some fudge i made with 'green butter'- and she knew what was in it, but wasn't/isn't a toker, and she got WAY too 'high'.
if the cop were driving a car or something else, he could have easily endangered himself and/or others.

27. Yeah, maybe from the beef.
But isn't that true anytime you eat a burger?

What an idiot! More people have died from eating burgers than from ingesting pot. Not a single fatality from marijuana has ever been reported. Hmmmm...Maybe hamburgers should be illegal.

Shouldn't cops be educated about such things since they are required to enforce drug laws? Wait, I know, good cops believe any and all illegal drugs will KILL you.
