and you would be instantly fingered as Al-Qaeda's #2 man. I never said I wasn't a total wuss. Hell, I'd fold like a cheap lawn chair at the mere mention of the word "waterboard."

13. I'd make stuff up as soon as I ran out of real stuff that they wanted to hear |
|
I'd have to figure that, by the time they'd gotten around to torturing me, they would likely already have decided to kill me anyway, so I might as well speed the process along.

comic book characters is one really fucked up example: "IT WAS VERY VICKY! I work for very Vicky!!" I would definitely start making stuff up, as doubtless others have too. Also, I've heard if you're being waterboarded, you're getting your brain cells fried.

I just had this conversation with a girlfriend this morning! I told her we have no idea how we'd cave under torture, even just the fear of being hauled away would begin to do thing to the psyche... if it is all just a mindfuck, sure I would probably just admit it all and let them off me...

20. John McCain as admitted he said whatever they wanted him to say. |

Torture doesn't work.
Old hands in the interrogation process know that it takes developing a relationship with the prisoner, until he talks because he wants to talk.

21. Part of the Inquisition's process was to "show the instruments of torture" to the prisoner... |
|
That frequently got a confession right there. Of course with the Inquisition the next thing was to be burned at the stake, so...

Torture during interrogations = false confessions.
I'm not picking on Russian Police, however, they have been known to beat confessions out of wrongly accused people, meanwhile, letting the guilty go scot-free, just because the police were directed to beat and humiliate and torture a confession out of suspects.
Just look up the story of the Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, and you will see layers of police ineptness that allowed this horrific serial killer to murder at least 70(?) women and young people of both sexes. He was an extremely prolific serial killer, and yet he went on killing, as an innocent man wrongly accused of his crimes was executed!
