1. Well, while I appreciate your sentiment, I sincerely hope

you are not holding your breath.

That day may never come- not in our lifetimes anyway.

And besides, given all the genocide, war and other atrocities
this country has been responsible for, through our so called
"leaders" but WITH the complicity of we, the people, through
our apathy about what is done in our names and with our tax dollars-
what exactly do you love about America?

The more I learn, the more ashamed I become.

2. i hear you
I guess what I love about America is what I've always been taught for the last 50 years....that we were the greatest country on earth, that we do offer freedom, that we do welcome the tired......I have been very very disillusioned the past 7 years, especially the last 5, and I resent that. A lot. I want to believe again, I guess. And more than anything, I want to not detest my President and his stupid, corrupt administration. I want to feel safe from my own country too.

What's happened w/the Bushites is merely a brazen example of what's been occurring for a long time
It's just that the Bushies did it so big and reckless {a grim sign, indeed} that finally more people are becoming aware.

5. Hate to tell you this but... most of what has been taught to you is a pack of LIES.
hardest thing for most of us to deal with is
awakening to the fact that the MYTH of America
that we have been taught has NOTHING to do with the
reality of America.

American people, some of them anyway, are truly
nice people who want to do the right thing- HOWEVER
most of those very same people refuse to educate themselves
about what has, is and will be done in their names.

This is where I separate the wheat from the chaff
as far as my personal life. I want nothing to
do these days with people who refuse to be accountable
and responsible for their understanding of reality.

One visit to GD-P affirms to me just how
many Americans, and yes democratic voters,
have no CLUE as to what the reality of America is.

3. I long for 1976.
God it was good to be American then. At least to a 13 year-old it was. That was when my picture of what America should be was formed. I remember Nixon but my idea of a president was Jimmy Carter. It's no wonder I am a liberal.

6. America is too big to always be what we can & should be...
but, the best parts of America can help make the rest of the world better. Not because we are right. Because we are a country founded on principles that attempt to achieve an equality for all people. An equality not addressed in many cultures. Our bad periods are the worst, for us and the rest of the world. But, our ability to achieve GOOD is never gone.
Believing in America, and proud to be an American, has been so abused by various power structures to actually prevent Americans from exercising the fundamental rights inherent in our Constitution. Have faith. It is about time Americans take back our country, make things right, here and abroad. Forget the flag-waving yahoos, forget the God is on our side healots. Believe we CAN BE GOOD...not because we are special...but because we have the apparatus to enjoy freedoms like no where else on Earth. We just have to get the apparatus back in our hands.
