On NBC Nightly News has anyone else noticed on the Roger Clemmons
hearing, the Republicans are siding with Roger and the Dems are siding with the trainer which illustrates how divided the two parties really are!!

Roger = money, power - the trainer is Mr. Working Man.

How can the truth ever be decided here?

1. Clemmons is buds with Dubya....
The Repubs now wish they could go back in time to '05 and never bring up steroids in baseball.

3. My husband used to love Roger Clemmons.
He even had a shirt with Clemmons' picture on it.

Now he sneers at Clemmons.

Why do they have to ruin baseball with these drugs?

8. I didn't even know who Clemmons was until this came up.
but it seems to me - under the curcumstances - Clemmons is taking one helluva risk making his statements under oath, if he is lying, as he is the one who has the most to lose.

Is there any DNA involved here with needles, etc to ferret out the truth?

19. Thing I've never understood is: why would a PITCHER use steroids?
Steroids increase brute strength, and that's about it. Pitching, especially for an older pitcher, isn't about brute strength. It's about hand/eye coordination and fine muscle control. How would a pitcher gain anything from 'roids at all?

I'd bet any amount that Clemmons used just like the rest of them.

6. I'm not sure what the ratio is (and it makes sense that those
Republic weasels would), but it's not completely accurate.

(just a couple of experts from AP story....I haven't read the entire transcripts) ---

"It's hard to believe you, sir," Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., told Clemens. "I hate to say that. You're one of my heroes. But it's hard to believe."

"If Mr. McNamee is lying, he has acted inexcusably and he has made Mr. Clemens an innocent victim. If Mr. Clemens isn't telling the truth, then he is acting shamefully and has smeared Mr. McNamee. I don't think there is anything in between." (Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif.)

7. Who gives a shit?
What they should be doing, is investigating things that matter to us all..

If steroids are baaaaaad, then make a law BANNING them..mandate testing for athletes before every game, and if ANYONE on the team tests positive, the team forfeits 2 games..

2nd offense..they forfeit the SEASON..
That would stop it..

15. Aren't you getting a little carried away?
And if you're seriously going to get this worked up about it....don't you think you should be more concerned about the damage steroids does to the human body, above and beyond any message about whether it's okay to cheat?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anabolic_steroid

Anabolic steroids can cause many adverse effects. Most of these side effects are dose-dependent, the most common being elevated blood pressure, especially in those with pre-existing hypertension,<19> and harmful changes in cholesterol levels: some steroids cause an increase in bad cholesterol and a decrease in good cholesterol. Anabolic steroids such as testosterone also increase the risk of cardiovascular disease or coronary artery disease. Acne is fairly common among anabolic steroid users, mostly due to stimulation of the sebaceous glands by increased testosterone levels. Conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) can accelerate the rate of premature baldness for those who are genetically predisposed.

Other side effects can include alterations in the structure of the heart, such as enlargement and thickening of the left ventricle, which impairs its contraction and relaxation.<26> Possible effects of these alterations in the heart are hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, heart attacks, and sudden cardiac death.<27> These changes are also seen in non-drug using athletes, but steroid use may accelerate this process.<28><29> However, both the connection between changes in the structure of the left ventricle and decreased cardiac function, as well as the connection to steroid use have been disputed.

High doses of oral anabolic steroid compounds can cause liver damage as the steroids are metabolized (17α-alkylated) in the digestive system to increase their bioavailability and stability.<32> When high doses of such steroids are used for long periods, the liver damage may be severe and lead to liver cancer.

31. Athletes who abuse their bodies just by doing their sports without drugs
probably just don't care that they further abuse their bodies with steroids. It seems crazy to me, but I am not a fiercely competitive athlete with a very high threshold of pain AND driven by the lure of big money and glamor.

33. Dana Milbank said this morning that if Congress had spent as much time palpitating the question of..
...WMDs as they have palpitating the question of Rocket Roger's Bleeding Buttocks, we'd probably be in a different situation today.

It was something like that, anyway. He has an article in the Washington Post ("Bottom Feeders") about it.
