Ok, ok, who has had it? They once again surrendered on the FISA
BILL

They will wiretap all of you... I have assumed this since at least 9.11 but now it will be legal

And they have given immunity to the telecoms... because we have to protect them, after all from legal prosecution

You tell me... why should I trust them just because they have D behind their name?

I know all the excuses, but we have reached the point that at least in some issues (like oh the rule of law) there is truly no difference... and save me the excuses.

5. It might happen AFTER you reach a certain point
but not a second before... and we may reach that point in our lifetimes, when the Empire collapses... and it will ... all empires do

just don't seem to care all the much! I'm pretty much DONE with politics now because I don't really think I have ANY voice! AND, I live in Florida so that makes it so much WORSE!

16. As a HISTORIAN I know that no empire survives
and I also know that peoples do reach a point when they had enough.

I fear, due to the accelerating course of things, that the American Empire will collapse soon (yes thank george) and when that happens you will reach that point very fast

So far, people don't give a damn, since they have food (more or less) and plenty of circus. Once that is gone, or greatly diminished, that is when you will see things of interest'

As is they have happened, but our "news media" will not tell you of them.

Cui Bono?

17. Ya Know... I Bought The DVD "Across The Universe" & Watched It
recently! While the movie is a compilation of the 60's Generation intertwined with many different aspects, I really loved it! Then I watched the DVD of all the extra scenes and actors, directors... the whole process and I was really amazed.

But it also made me very angry about what is going on today! Sure, the time back then went from real innocence to great upheaval, but at least there WAS Great Upheaval! We spoke up and we SPOKE LOUD, and we got HEARD! It sickens me to see what this country has become today!

So now, I'll sit back and wait for the attacks from those out there who constantly put us down! I don't care what you think, we DID SOMETHING!!

20. ???? didn't put down the 60s generation
it achieved a lot and those gains, many of them are being lost

But I will stand by what I said, the cycle of history will catch up with this country and when it does, it will not be pretty

As to sitting back and watching... know the feeling and I voice it often, where is the youth? IPODs and other circus devices, they will not react until their skin is in the game... and when it finally is... they will react... self preservation mostly

28. My grandmother used to say
'it' skips generations. Maybe the next one coming up will be more rebellious and questioning of authority.

And we DID accomplish and achieve. And that is what scared 'them' so much. They started all of these think tanks and media outlets...they stole ideas from psyops on brainwashing and have pretty much succeeded in controlling the 'consumers.'

But the consumers are in debt up to their ears and the financial house of cards is about to collapse...that might shake them up. I fear that they will just pout, get pissed, and violent. Who knows?

The youth desperately needs GUIDANCE AND EDUCATION about how The Corporation is screwing them upside down and backwards. They're techno-slaves.

Anyway...you're not alone. I feel the same. I loved 'Across the Universe.'

10. whew..ya had me worried there..
I just woke up (3rd shifter) so forgive me. I called my Bluedog Democrat Congressman yesterday and urged him to vote against The Senate version. I chewed him out this past summer when I met him at our Union hall for voting FOR the extension last time. He told me that he'd look more into the bill when it comes back in 6 mos. Now is that time. Hopefully, the ground we gained yesterday by defeating another extension will carry over to defeating The Senate's version!

7. They will, because nobody on DU cares -- I'd say 1/2 to 1/3 of the current DUers
(Especially with the influx of paid campaign operatives on these boards)

support them and endorse warrantless "terrorist" surveillance.

They won't admit it, of course, but look at how fast this issue sank and
how many replies were the "we have more important issues to worry about".

27. Remember the Supreme Court nominations?
Same noise, now that it's 6 - 3 against and it makes very little difference, we have to vote for the 'D' because of the nominations.

I frankly don't see the people of this country doing anything, they'll just quietly be led to the slaughter and feel oh-so-betrayed at the very end.

8. The house is more likely to hold firm
I wrote a letter to my Dem Senator and chastised her. I wrote a letter tomy conggressman to please hold the line.

Neither letter will do much. The Senate one will be ignored, and my Huse Rep usually votes the right way with or without my input.

11. You bet I care!
But this news is a few days old, and so I have already had the big let down and the day's worth of depression.

Then I got distracted by some bright, shiny objects. Obama coming on strong, pukes walking out of the House, contempt charges passed.

I really only checked this thread to see if the House had caved, too. They say it is less likely in the House, but I do not put anything past this bunch if the last year and half hadn't been a gigantic let-down.

But I knew the DLC and a few other Senate Dems would trip over themselves to give Bush and the corporations what they want. That is their history when it comes to Bush power-grabs.

I trust them as far as I can throw them.

I will vote, you can bet on that (otherwise how are they gonna steal it?)

But I don't expect anything of import to change any more

(Oh and the ACLU alert, came today on my email)

19. That's cool
You can post what you want, Nadin. I am definitely not here to stop you because of a day or two. I am just saying that I came into this thread with a different fear...that of the House capitulating.

As you can see from the previous statement, I am not far from you in the Congressional faith department.

But today was good.

18. The onerous FISA changes are being withheld as we type. Dems are
playing the need to return to House/Senate conference - so no new bill goes to the White House yet. And immunity is not yet the rule of law. I suggest we see how this plays out, and it may not happen before the Congressional break.

Suggest you weigh in with your Senate/Congressional reps, if you're so inclined, to support delaying this for conference review, possible adjustments and a re-vote. It's not over yet.

29. You know how I feel Nadinbrzezinski...
I wish we had a giant hoover vacuum hose that
we could stick inside all the branches of our
so called government.

We could then empty the bag into one of their nuclear waste dump sites
and start over.

Sooner than later would be preferable.

BHN
