Mao Offered Women to U.S.

Thursday, February 14, 2008

(02-14) 15:34 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) --

Amid a discussion of trade in 1973, Chairman Mao Zedong made what Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger called a novel proposition: sending tens of thousands, even 10 million, Chinese women to the United States.

"You know, China is a very poor country," Mao said, according to a document released by the State Department's historian office. "We don't have much. What we have in excess is women. So if you want them we can give a few of those to you, some tens of thousands."

A few minutes later, Mao circled back to the offer. "Do you want our Chinese women?" he asked. "We can give you 10 million."

After Kissinger noted Mao was "improving his offer," the chairman said, "We have too many women ... They give birth to children and our children are too many."

"It is such a novel proposition," Kissinger replied in his discussion with Mao in Beijing. "We will have to study it."

11. I don't believe he
would ever have accepted. Unless of course, it was a bluff to further his bargaining position.

23. I don't think he would either. At the best it would be a logistical
nightmare, and at its worst it is human trafficking.

12. and guess what? Now they have millions of angry horny young guys with no women
to marry them..

Millions of female babies were killed because of the one-child policy, since they "preferred" to have a male child..

the low number of surviving females are unwilling to stay in poor communities and hook up with a poor farmboy.. They are in the driver's seat, and look for the richest, most educated young men they can find, leaving the others with no chance of marrying & creating their own families..

The cure?...WAR

15. Mao was a nutcase in his later years
The Gang of Four. The "Great Leap Forward". The Cultural Revolution. Lin Biao.

Not exactly milestones in socialist thinking.

However, Mao WAS a great emancipator of women with his revolution.

He often wrote about the plight of peasant women and how they were treated as nothing but slaves or concubines to their men.

It was a revolutionary idea in Asia at the time.

19. 50% of the sky, if I recall
one thing you'll find in China - at least in the more urbanized East - is that men do a lot of housework there when compared to many other places.

22. Well, with all the US adoptions of abandoned girls from China
over the past several years, my own precious little girl (disclaimer: said 5 year old daughter is currently asleep, so is automatically "precious") included, China has given the US some of its women.

24. I would be interested to see this document
I have my doubts about the story. It sounds like anti-Chinese dehumanizing propaganda.

"according to a document released by the State Department's historian office."
