How Can someone as intelligent as John Malkovich be a Neocon?
I know he describes himself as a Libertarian, but I was doing a bit of Googling on him today, and I simply cannot believe it.

He supported the War, still does, and supports some of Bush's policies. Pro-Death Penalty, and a devout Right-Winger.

What disturbs me about learning these things about him is that John Malkovich is not a stupid man. He is highly intelligent and cultured.

I know this is probably a way off base topic, but it really disappointed me to learn these things about him.

First Mike Nelson of MST3K, and now this.

6. Well then he really doesn't have the right to complain about what happens here.

I wonder if he pays taxes in France? Or maybe only citizens pay taxes there.

I would be interested in his opinion on the 35 hour work week and France's socialized medicine. Of course he is rich enough he can get health care no matter where he is. Another vote for "I've got mine so screw you!".

2. People tend to be stupid
whether they are "famous" or not.

Doesn't matter how much money a person makes, they still tend to fall into the middle of the bell curve.

3. He doesn't talk too much. Often, stupid people seem smarter than they actually are if they're
a bit taciturn.

8. Probably a good idea to delete that one.
It would only start a brush fire.

5. Intelligence does not equal Wisdom
But, I'm curious about why you think he is intelligent.

7. Depends on how self centered they are.
Edited on Thu Feb-14-08 08:49 PM by seasat
IMHO, there are some intelligent folks are Neocons, Rand-droids, and generally Republican. The policies they support are those that they think personally benefit themselves. Neoconservatism is a self centered political philosophy in that they think they know what is best for another country. They think this regardless of what the people of that country want. Rand-droids (libertarians who are devotees of Ayn Rand) tend to be self centered in that they think government programs that benefit others detract from what they receive. General Republicans think that all government policies should benefit only themselves. It doesn't mean they're stupid, just self centered jerks.

9. Conservatives are EMOTIONALLY underdeveloped
Edited on Thu Feb-14-08 09:04 PM by lynyrd_skynyrd
They can be "intelligent" in many ways, but it's their childish selfishness that makes them conservative. Conservatives care only about themselves, are usually bigoted, religiously brainwashed, hateful, stubborn, and arrogant. They may be well read, articulate, or thoughtful, but that is separate from their emotions.

It mostly has to do with their upbringing.

10. How do you know he's intelligent?
I'm not saying he isn't, but just because Malkovich is a compelling actor doesn't mean he's smart. In fact there's one theory that empty headed people make the best actors, because the role can take over with little to compete with.

11. I don't even think he's all that compelling. I think hes affected and annoying.
Very much a ham, always more MALKOVICH than inhabiting a character that feels real.

Didn't know he was a neocon or libertarian a-hole though. Too bad.
