arguing that so many politicos are hyprocritical for supporting gay unions, but not supporting gay marriage (on Dan Abrams). They were discussing McCain flip-flopping on the issues.

I think they fear this will somehow be forced on them.
Don't worry, Bible-bumpers! You can still refuse to marry the gays in your churches. This is just for taxes, insurance, city hall stuff!

He's just railing against "counterfeit marriage" as they call civil unions here in Colorado.
