Bloomberg: "U.S.Resembling A 'Third-World Country'"

Bloomberg Ridicules Washington On Economy
'Cash Rebates Like Booze For Alcoholics'

U.S.Resembling A 'Third-World Country'
NEW YORK (CBS/AP) ? Mayor Michael Bloomberg has unleashed another flurry of jabs on Washington, ridiculing the federal government's rebate checks as being "like giving a drink to an alcoholic" on Thursday, and said the presidential candidates are looking for easy solutions to complex economic problems.

The billionaire and potential independent presidential candidate also said the nation "has a balance sheet that's starting to look more and more like a third-world country."

....

But Bloomberg does not believe it will do much good. And his harsh words at a news conference Thursday reflect the view among some of his associates that the country's economic woes present a unique opportunity for him to launch a third-party bid for the White House.

....

In his answer, he praised Democrat Barack Obama for the plan the Illinois senator outlined on Wednesday that would create a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank to rebuild highways, bridges, airports and other public projects. Obama projects it could generate nearly 2 million jobs.

12. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of this country
could barely pass an elementary school arithmetic quiz, let alone "econ101". In economic matters, they'll just go along with whatever FOX News tells them.

4. These rebates are a way of filtering our tax dollars to corporate America.
The White House borrows money we'll have to pay back in taxes; in the mean while all this money will be spent making corporations even richer.

This is the GOP's trickle-up economic plan.

5. The only thing that makes this problem complex is in trying to maintain the system that
keeps the ruling class on top of the pyramid.

6. "...a
balance sheet that's starting to look more and more like a third-world country."

....how could this be, bloomy?....it wouldn't have anything to do with your wealthy friends and corporate buddies not paying their fair share of taxes while simultaneously looting the treasury with every possible scheme imaginable?

....would it?

9. Starting to?
By the way some streets in a well to do area of town look like some neighborhoods in Mexico City, bad streets and all.

Did I type that?

Nah...

10. Sending government checks to people is bad!
Edited on Thu Feb-14-08 11:06 PM by Alcibiades
Let the free market work! Cut taxes! Eliminate the deficit! End entitlements!

(Stock market falls a little.)

Sending government checks to people is good! Let the government help the free market work! Cut taxes! Increase the deficit! Entitlements for everybody!

Doubleplusgood checks. At least now we know what they care about.

11. In some ways the U.S. has always been a banana republic in a fancy suit.
For example, what "first world" nation would ever tolerate a health care "system" like ours?

What makes the U.S. unusual is that we don't have a lot of the petty corruption in most places -- the cops don't often pull you over and shake you down for cash. But we've always had plenty of the big multi-million dollar plus sorts of corruption, and even celebrated it.

What's happening now is that the neo-cons took that corruption far beyond what our economy could support.

The great cracking noises we are hearing are the sounds of a structure failing.
