Nope ...... they also rescue people from burning buildings simply because they were there before the firemen.

Notice that the cops were armed only with flashlights. No fireproof coats and breathing tanks.

Yeah, sometimes there are bad cops and they need to be found and eliminated from PDs. But watch that video at about the 3.50 mark .... when the cop is carrying the little kid away from the burning building.

1. And What's your Point
Yes there are bad cops, and they are probably outnumbered by the good cops, and finding the bad ones and putting them out on the street would be great.

One problem is that soemtimes the good cops will look the other way, just like a good soldier will look the other way when his buddy does something wrong, Haditha comes to mind.

There are times when doing what's right is more important then being a pal, and when that mentality becomes the norm with the police, the animosity shown by people might actual lessen.

These particular officers are heroes, no doubt about it!

4. Seems to me that his...
Seems to me that his point was simply that there are enough good people and enough bad people in any given profession that we may safely view any sweeping generalizations about them as absurd at best.

That maybe, all other things being equal, issuing blanket statements about a profession, a culture, a religion or even an age group is simple fallacy that we should consciously avoid.

Anyway, that's what I think his point was...

2. GOOD COP! Dozen Donuts!
those cops deserve awards (and not just donuts) ;)

The movie 'Crash' did a good job of illustrating cops that are at one minute monsters and the next heroes.

3. And if he had be overcome with smoke & been killed?
He'd still be called a hero rather than an idiot.

5. Nicely put.
To generalize ALL cops as evil, fascists in a huge sweeping generalization is ignorant. The blaming individual police officers while ignoring the systems of control we have in place is akin to trying to destroy a Sequoia by picking off individual it's leaves.
