Watch out....Al Sharpton will steal the Whitehouse blind
Whats left to steal? I think Bush and his ilk already beat old
Sharpton to that.
I would like to just BITCHSLAP her everytime I see this racist little puke Laura Ingram. If I were Sharpton I would go after her like he did after Imus.

2. well, i didnt rtfa
But I'm not such a big fan of Sharpton myself. something about his demeanor. The things he says are fine so im not sure what the disconnect is for me.

3. Interestingly, I've always liked Sharpton.
I think he'd make an EXCELLENT press secretary.

If he were running in '08, he'd have my vote before either Clinton or Obama. He was in my top three in '04.

6. Then we don't share the same sense of reality. Sharpton raised racial
tensions over Tawana Brawley when it wasn't necessary ... she wasn't even attacked. But along the way, my family was terrifed because we happen to live near African Americans. In my lifetime, yeshiva students have been stabbed, shot and in my case, battered.

Should we have this in the US? Should it be applauded? I hope not.

11. I remember Tawana Brawley.
Not exactly Sharpton's best move, lol.

My sense of reality tells me that racism is racism no matter which race is involved, and that just because a particular race or ethnicity has been victimized does not mean that they eschew racism themselves.

We don't have to look far to find my race's legacy in that regard. Perhaps the constant self-reflection and monitoring to make sure there are no vestiges of cultural bigotry hiding within makes me more sensitive to bigotry of any kind around me. You can find examples of bigotry perpetrated by all people. I'm sorry that you have had to live in fear. That shouldn't happen anywhere in the world.

I stand by what I said, though. Sharpton has as many flaws as the rest. I still prefer him to many.

Not as POTUS, at least not if there are better choices on the table. As I already said, I'd rather see him as press secretary.

13. You may laugh, but he represents an existential threat to my people
This isn't racism ... it's real violence. Now, you can play w/fire, but I won't indulge your fantasy.

24. I'm not playing with fire, and I don't really "get" that reference.
I'm not downplaying your experience.

I'm also not buying into Sharpton as an enemy. You can view him that way; it's no skin off my nose.

It doesn't change my pov.

23. I'm astounded that most public figures are taken seriously.
Which doesn't change my point: I like much of what Sharpton has to say.

12. Some of what makes sense:
"This is not about what party you're part of. This is about right and wrong, ... the conscience of this nation."

"If Charlton Heston can have a constitutional right carry a rifle, why can't grandma have a constitutional right to health care?"

"I do believe the Democratic party has moved far to the right. I do believe that the party has a bunch of elephants running around in donkey clothes."

"The United States has got to adopt a policy of befriending and creating allies around the world."

"George Bush giving tax cuts is like Jim Jones giving Kool-Aid. It tastes good but it'll kill you."

14. He's also been talking about funding a massive..
infrastructure program and putting people to work here rebuilding roads, bridges and other public works that languish while we send trillions to Iraq.

22. Using our wealth to create and not to destroy is always his message
A message based simply on justice and peace. His message does get through, though, and it is always the same message, despite all of the distractions of the Rev Al Sharpton personnage.

15. Yes he does. I believe
If Sharpton (or Jackson) had taken the bullet instead of MLK, he would have been seen as a martyr and canonized. If MLK had survived the 60s, he would be hated, ridiculed and marginalized by the mainstream. Sharpton and Jackson are activist ministers, not unlike MLK.

JMHO

16. I'm not sure about that..
while Sharpton and Jackson are both pretty good politicians, I don't think either one holds a candle to MLK. That's the unfortunate tragic thing, MLK was such a brilliant man, there was nobody left to fill the void, and there may never be again. He really was a history changing one-of-a-kind along the lines of a Jefferson or a Madison, and I really think that he perhaps could have transcended all of that, even though his enemies would have kept swiftboating him like you say.

10. BushCo has set the corruption mark so high no one will ever come close.

From this point on anyone who tries their absolute hardest will seem like amateurs by comparison.

27. They sure will!
If anything I hope for the day that corruption will no longer be a part of society, but as long as there's greed and hatred running amuck there's not a whole lot to be done.

That's why I voted this past Tuesday. Change is needed REAL bad!
