"Get them to print you a t-shirt with 'FASCIST' on it"
And if there is one thing we know about you, Mr. Bush, one thing that you have proved time and time again — it is that you are never responsible.

As recently ago as 2006, we spoke words like these with trepidation.

The idea that even the most cynical and untrustworthy of politicians in our history, George W. Bush, would use the literal form of terrorism against his own people was dangerous territory. It seemed to tempt fate, to heighten fear.

We will not fear any longer. We will not fear the international terrorists, and we will thwart them. We will not fear the recognition of the manipulation of our yearning for safety, and we will call it what it is: terrorism. We will not fear identifying the vulgar hypocrites in our government, and we will name them. And we will not fear George W. Bush. Nor will we fear because George W. Bush wants us to fear.

2. I gotta ask something....
I saw a protestor in California with a sign that read "America is a Fascist State"

Does this protestor have any idea the unbelievable irony of that?

I mean...the fact that he is holding that sign proves him wrong. I want to further our cause just as much as the next guy, but when we call our country 'fascist' it just proves our ignorance because if it were true, we would not have the freedom to say that.

Please stop doing this....it only makes us look stupid and ignorant.

American (with all its problems) is NOT fascist. I don't need proof. The fact that I have the freedom to sit and type that proves it.

3. We are experiencing a Fascist Shift.
Small step by small step. We are in what some call Invisible Fascism or Soft Fascism.

It doesn't have to look like or be as bad as previous Fascist States to clearly be MORE Fascist than we were prior to this War Crimes Pres.

It is an undeniable Fascist Shift.

I encourage reading Naomi Wolf's "End of America".

4. You should look into fascism a little more.
Edited on Fri Feb-15-08 10:36 AM by Marr
It's not about whether or not you can hold a cardboard sign. Bush has most certainly pushed the country towards, if not right into, fascism. The whole "Unitary Executive" claim which has defined his presidency is an expression of a fascist ideal.

5. If you aren't outraged you aren't paying attention
You bet we are approaching fascism. Turn off Fox News and do some research. Cops are tasering children. Free speech zones are routine. Citizens are being removed from government facilities for wearing t-shirts. The phone companies are listening in on our conversations and the president wants to grant them immunity.

We don't need to ask if it's fascism yet. It is.

6. WTF does typing or a cardboard sign have to do with fascism?
More relevant is the fact that no matter how many signs we hold or how much typing we do, it is not going to change the actions of our government. THAT is Fascism.

8. Fascism has more to do with poisoning the channels of information
than preventing "free speech". The issue of free speech is irrelevant if the fascists can marginalize anyone they want to. Similarly to what you are doing by implying that one who expresses an opinion that we live in a fascist state is ignorant. You just did their work for them.

9. And the answer: You are totally wrong.
This is clearly a fascist state. There is simply no question about this fact. The latest FISA squabble is living proof of this.

Perhaps you simply don't understand what fascist means?

A fascist state is one in which large corporations and the government are one and the same. It is in effect a government run by big business.

My guess is that you think that fascist means totalitarian dictatorship. It does not, especially in the case of the US. Here, the state has simply lost the ability to control the population through the use of violence. So, they have turned to other means, like economic warfare, propaganda, and so on. Just because the means of social control have changed, does not mean that this is not a fascist state.

The same goals can be achieved without having to suppress freedom of speech and so on.

Ignorance anyone?
