GM's Bob Lutz: Global warming is a "total crock of shit"
According to D Magazine, at a private lunch, GM chairman Maximum Bob Lutz said global warming is a "total crock of shit." Bob adds "I'm a skeptic, not a denier. Having said that, my opinion doesn't matter." Speaking about the battery-driven Volt, Lutz said, "I'm motivated more by the desire to replace imported oil than by the CO2 ." At the lunch Bob also said hybrids like the Prius make "make no economic sense" and the Volt is exciting for him because "it's the last thing anybody expected from GM." Don't hold back Bob, tell us what you really think.

I feel even less pity for GM now than I did yesterday. This dinosaur needs to go and be replaced with a chairperson who isn't so blinded by greed that (s)he can actually grasp reality

2. They already had an electric car....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1

and with the LPG turbine, it made one HELL of a Hybrid, at 60-100 mpg, and this was in 1999.

4. It isn't easy to take one of the world's largest corporations...
and totally run it into the ground. It takes years of managerial expertise in the areas of industrial finance, manufacturing, production, marketing, labor and innovation to actually destroy a company. If the leadership does not possess extraordinary degrees of greed and disdain for people, and a myopic view of the world, the chance to achieve the complete collapse becomes problematic. GM is in the exit stage...it is just so big, it may take forever. In the meantime, its leadership will get what THEY can...screw the stockholders (eventually) and the employees (ongoing).

5. As if I needed another reason to never buy another POS GM car
GM, Chrysler and Ford are all dinosaurs at this point. They need to get with the program or become extinct.

11. exactly!
That is exactly right, they have an opportunity to become innovative, creative, and become a leader in the world to re-create the auto industry. They are choosing to keep a myoptic view and continue to drive their industry into the ground.

9. Prius makes no economic sense?
Right. My gasoline bill went from $400/mo to $120/mo when I got the Prius.

Guess what, Bob? All your profit are belong to Exxon.

10. My Prius owning friends say the same
and they all resent the constant complaints of Prius haters that the cars are so much "more expensive" to buy. The problem is that they keep comparing the Prius to a Corolla when it actually has the interior space of a Camry (which costs as much or more). For those that do a lot of driving the Prius is a real bargain.

18. Don't care what motivates him
He is a crock of shit, of course.

But if he puts out an electric car that works and is durable and affordable, who cares what his private motivations are? I would have my own reasons for wanting such a car.

23. A sign of very poor leadership
It's an irresponsible statement, especially when this CEO says he not only doesn't believe global warming exists, but that even if it did, he doesn't care about CO2. He says his opinion doesn't matter but I think it does, as far as it indicates company policy and the kinds of cars they intend to build, as thousands of workers depend on GM, not only those who actually assemble the cars, but the many, many workers in ancillary industries that also count on the continued viability of the American auto industry.
