Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but...?
Edited on Fri Feb-15-08 10:44 AM by theHandpuppet
The current, relative passivity of the neocons, whose ambitions have heretofore known no bounds, are making me increasingly nervous. At this point in time, when it looks as if we could very well have a Democrat elected to office come November, they are awfully quiet. Does anyone think that after decades of securing their tentacles around and sucking the life from our democracy, they're no longer interested in retaining that power?

Maybe I'm just being paranoid here but the hotly contested primary races have absorbed our attention away from what these snakes may be up to. I simpy cannot believe they've suddenly developed a disinterest in power. Is this the calm before the storm? Do they have one last, big trick up their sleeve? I have to admit the closer we get to the election, the more nervous I've become.

2. I think that between the disunity within their own party and the surprise
of the Democratic contest, the right isn't sure which way is up. They never really coalesced around any one candidate until the seeming support for McCain over the past 2 weeks. They were all geared up to battle Clinton, but now, they don't know who their opponent is going to be. And, I think a lot of them had pretty much decided that there was a huge chance they were going to lose the presidency, due to Bush and Iraq.

Keep your eyes open to your state campaigns. They will go all-out to take back Congress and I think those races are going to be incredibly ugly.

5. I got some thoughtful responses from a similar thread
that I started yesterday evening. Some of the responses had possibilities I hadn't thought of.

7. Could be
They don't care that much because most conservatives don't want McCain to win, and maybe, just maybe, they don't want the power now that Bush has screwed things up so bad.
I too wonder what's up when someone like McCain, who is bashed by the talking heads and religous right, can get the nomination, and millions of republicans in the religous right and the neocons, will "NOT" vote for him!

They may think it's wise to let the dems win, then do their best to put the blame for everything Bush has screwed up on the dems. I mean Bush has done such a terrible job it will take many years to fix it, if it can be fixed at all. In four years if things aren't better, if the dem candidate did not follow through with the "real" changes this country needs, they would be able to take back the power, and get on with their agenda of selling this country to the highest bidder! It will be interesting to see how things play out.

9. From the neocon point of view
I don't think the neos share our opinion that "Bush has done such a terrible job." In terms of strengthening the executive and subverting the Constitution he has been remarkably successful. If the Dems undo his eight years of hard work, what is to become of this country, tsk tsk? (Heavy sarcasm there)

That's the puzzler for me. As another poster put it: Was the idea to make extensive changes to the way the government operates and then just slink away?

I'd be afraid, very afraid.

8. Perhaps they fulfilled their main objective - robbing the Treasury
and they're preparing to retire to Paraguay?

10. Well, it looks like most DUers think we're paranoid, doesn't it?
One possibility I can think of for why Bush & Cheney would "slink away" with their goals unfulfilled is that the military told them not to even think about staying around. Army generals, anyway. The AF loves him and are salivating at the chance to bomb Iran.

12. I think they are lying low...well some of them...because their brand
has been so rejected. Doubtfull that they don't want power. They are just waiting and waiting till the time is right again. And hey - they may have a "man" in McCain. I doubt very much that they want to ruin McCain's chances in the GE by talking him up. So quiet they remain.

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop

(actually I did witness a shoe dropping once. I was about to drive under a high bridge when a shoe fell down and then a woman followed. landed beside my car. it took yrs. for me to forget the sound of it.)

hope when the neo con other shoe drops it won't take yrs. for us to get over.
