If there were found to have been crimes committed by this White House, by George W Bush and Dick Cheney specifically, could they be prosecuted for those crimes after they are out of the White House? If they bribed people or perjured themselves, could they be prosecuted? Of course, it would be called a "political witchhunt" by the opposition, but would it not be the duty of the Congress to pursue it to the end? Or would we let it all slide like we did with Reagan and Bush Sr after they were out of office?

1. It would depend upon the crime |
|
Statute of limitations would have run out on some things, but others, like treason, don't have a statute of limitations.

4. Yes unless they get a Nixon like pardon, that is why Cheney will be the next POTUS for about 72 hrs |
|
Bush will pardon Cheney, resign, then Cheney will pardon Bush.
Reminder: "I Gerald Ford ... do grant a full, free, and absolute pardon unto Richard Nixon for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 20, 1969 through August 9,1974."

Impeachment cannot be pardoned. Also there is no statute of limitations on war crimes. War crimes is an international crime and also can't be pardoned by a president.

6. The Congress that has ducked the responsibility of impeachment for seven years... |
|
...is not likely to discover any sudden sense of urgency once */Cheney are out of office.
On second thought, though, a "posthumous" impeachment investigation would at least give them something useless to fiddle with while they avoid doing real work next year.
