Great article on how and why kucinich is being railroaded outta here.

In his presidential campaigns in 2004 and 2008, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich told Democrats a brutal truth. Party orthodoxy is a disaster, a series of lies that must no longer be accepted. While his opponents, Obama, Clinton and Edwards, made it clear they weren't serious about ending the occupation of Iraq, Kucinich presented a plan to do just that. When they made the case for leaving a failed for-profit health care system intact, Kucinich said that non-profit universal care was possible. He co-sponsored legislation calling for impeachment hearings against Vice President Cheney and President Bush while leadership declared the criminals should go free.

*snip*

In December 2007, Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman declared himself a challenger for Kucinich's congressional seat. Within fifteen days, Cimperman raised more than $39,000 from fifteen contributors, none of whom reside in the 10th District that is being contested. Cimperman is no different from these contributors. He doesn't live in the district either but that doesn't matter to the lawyers, bankers and real estate developers who are giving him money. They expect access and influence. Cimperman's address, like the interests of residents, is of no importance to them

*snip*

Kucinich is a "black" congressional candidate. He was the only progressive in the presidential campaign. His re-election should be the first priority for activists in this presidential campaign year. Imagine a Congress with no voice for impeachment. Imagine Congress with no questions about Iraqi civilian casualties. Imagine a Congress without Kucinich when Bush decides on his pretext for war against Iran. Imagine the worst, because that is what we will have if Kucinich is defeated.

Thanks, I'm glad to see this posted at the smirkingchimp website. There is another article in the link below from the Cleveland Leader that connects some other issues and names.

Snip from above link

...I picked one corporation from the list, Forest Enterprises Inc. Several officers of Forest Enterprises, who are members of the Ratner Family gave to Cimperman for Congress in the first few weeks.

I have seen some good letters to the editor and comments on the site. I don't really think there is much support for Cimperman, although stealing the election is not out of the question. Clevelanders are smarter than they think and they know they have a great Congressman.

In order to attempt to have free elections here in CA, we needed a new Secretary of State.
The People's Choice was Debra Bowen.

She ran in November of 2006 - and if you watched the local news station you would have never ever heard of her. Probably not once. ANd she didn't ahve TV ads, I don' think.

Even the night that she won this post, the local NBC out of Sacramento interviewed her opponent, talking about her opponent's great strides on taking on and defeating Bowen (You would not have even known that Bowen was winning as the interview was conducted!)

But the activists that called on the phone and that sent emails won Bowen her position.

And I don't recall the media ever mentioning how they had gotten it wrong.

But what counts in the end is the populace, and most of us are getting more clever and aware than ever before.

99. He is fighting some more -- to keep his seat in the House.

With primary challengers and not enough donations, I don't blame him for dropping out. He also lost his youngest brother unexpectedly in December. I've been through that myself and it was very difficult.

We need him to stay in the House. Maybe by 2012 Americans will listen to him as a presidential candidate, if he can do an end run around the media.

I contributed to his Presidential campaign. I have contributed to his Congressional campaign. I will contribute to whatever he is doing, because he is a good man.

Based upon the knowledge that he has a very well heeled competitor for his seat, it makes sense that Dennis left the Presidential race and returned home to keep his seat in Congress. We need him there. We need him in the Senate. We need him in the Presidency.

Whatever he does will be done well, so in the end he will have done what he can, and I will support him all the way.

26. No/Text "following"
An abbreviation in the subject line of an e-mail or Usenet message that indicates that the entire text of the message is in the title, and nothing is in the message body.

It's a courtesy to those who are viewing the thread in a collapsed or nested form. It prevents someone from clicking on the title of a post only to find nothing there.

28. Yeah, why get rid of the most powerful woman in America for someone no one has even heard of?
I don't think the voters of Pelosi's district are that stupid. And it would take a MASSIVE amount of blatant, overwhelming stupidity to toss Pelosi out of her seat.

Of course, if they were that stupid, when Steny Hoyer was elected, unanimously and by acclaim, as the new Speaker, these same people would be having a 'fittus maximus!'

Her Corporate Masters.

Just two days after San Francisco’s representative, Nancy Pelosi, assumed the speakership of the US House of Representatives in Washington, 1,000 people back in her home district laid their bodies down and spelled out the message “IMPEACH!” in 100-foot letters

One year? Two years?

Who has noticed, save you? Getting together and forming letters at a whoop-di-doo beach party has accomplished WHAT, exactly?

Eleven months left of BushCo. The impeachment opportunity has passed. Several years ago, actually.

If you REALLY want to see a Republican keep the White House, painting Bush as a sympathetic figure by impeaching him at this late stage, when he is a lame duck and the Congress is strong enough to kick him when he gets out of line, is just the way to do it.
"Heeeere's JOHNNY--McCAIN!!!"

If the people of her district toss her out, all I can say ONE MORE TIME as well is "Say hello to SPEAKER HOYER." Seeing as most people here think poor, hardworking Steny is the devil, that won't please them at all.

And for your trouble, if you prevail (and you won't), you'll have a new representative who is the bottom woman on the totem pole, who won't get SHIT done.

And you'll be smugly proud, for no good reason.

Whatever. Knock yourself out!!

43. ineffective legislatures should not hold office
especially if they are responsible for holding up the most important process in our democracy and insuring that these horrendous crimes do not go unpunished. If you want to give nancy and reid a free pass for carrying water for bush then be my guest. But don't go telling someone else that they are wrong for wanting her out of office because the majority of people agree. Nancy did not fulfill her duties as speaker of the house. If she does not want to perform her duties to the will of the people then let her be replaced. Doesn't matter if its a new politician or not. We cannot let her stay in office if these are her policies, that what she wants overrides her constitutional, Congressional and house duties.

I don't vote for Nancy or Reid. Their consitituents do. And they brought them to the ball, and apparently, like the way they dance.

You can gripe about her (or him) all you want, but IMO, you're pissing into the wind. She's the incumbent, she's popular with the vast--no, the OVERWHELMING-- majority of her constituents, and you are in the 'cranky minority.'

but if you don't like the job they are doing but have resigned yourself to nothing better then don't knock someone for stating a valid point. Also I think I live a little closer to her district and I don't often hear alot of support about her. If she has a challenger that might get her seat I'm all for it.

Nancy is ineffective and should not retain her seat, do you at least agree on that part? doesn't matter if she is going to keep her seat or not, through her actions she has betrayed the people and her constituents and pissed off the entire NATION.

energy, their maturity, and their businesslike approach to government.

I am especially pleased that they aren't playing the "partisan asswipe" game that the GOP played, that they come off like adults, and that they are prosecuting an agenda that is ambitious AND realistic, as well as taking into consideration all segments of the Democratic Party, not just the far-far left who are not always reliable Democrats if the Green Du Jour candidate comes along.

Amazing how we went from having "show hearings" in small basement rooms, to having REAL hearings with the green tablecloths and the subpeonas and OUR Democrats chairing committees...and it's still "NEVER enough." At least not for some.

Bottom line, they betrayed us time and time again and by us I mean democrats who want transparency and accountability and a "fair shake" in the government.

But you go on and keep tilting at halfassed windmills and screaming like a banshee--it's always good to have scolds from the far left around, because they balance the equally obnoxious and annoying scolds from the far right.

That leaves plenty of room for the sensible moderates and centrists to actually do the work and get shit done.

*edit i made the poll, also you cannot hide behind your lousy attempts to mock me and make me inconsequential. post position on harry and pelosi and explain why, at the bottom of this post are some questions i would love for you to answer.

the difference is i can tell you they should not have been their in the first place, the job they took on has not been done, order has not been reestablished, high crimes are still being committed, Cheney has verified the telecoms helped them with warrentless wiretapping, The CIA has confirmed, america tortures and will continue to do so.

like I said they were elected to impeach and to reestablish checks and balances, they have failed if you were to find approval ratings you would find them sorely lacking. you laughter is directed at the constitution that is being shred by this lack of action on their parts that the people demand of them. In simpler words they have failed to uphold the laws of the constitution harry especially because we do not allow ex post facto laws here.

my only guess is that you have ulterior motives for supporting nancy and harry but it is definitely not because of the "great" job they are doing.

oh and I'm not following a crowd, I called you on your BS and I stand by it. harry and nancy have failed us. please explain to me in your next post how they have not failed us

* please include explanation of why impeachment is still off the table when it is evidently apparent that the administration has committed crimes and misdemeanors. also explain how harry can be doing such a great job if he lets supports every bill the republicans throw at them but when the dems want to grow a spine he tries to slap them down (re FISA and Dodd filibuster). please address these comments as all you have down so far is the equivilant of saying "nanananaaa im right your wrong".

97. Reid and Pelosi were elected well before impeachment was an issue.
WELL BEFORE.

They are incumbents who have served their constituents well. They will keep their seats so long as their constituents like the jobs they do.

You don't like them. FINE.

I do.

That's not "BS" -- that's my view.

Tell you what--you look me up and rub my nose in that "BS" when the impeachment goes down.

But when it doesn't, you rub your own nose in it on Inauguration Day.

You really want to know why impeachment is off the table? REALLY? You have not a fucking clue? Honestly?????

Here are a few nubs for you to chew on:

--It would create sympathy for a lame duck president who is boxed in by a Democratic legislature anyway. Said sympathy could translate into a GOP victory in November.

--Did I mention that a Democratic majority has a lame duck president boxed in anyway?

--Impeachment is NOT a punishment. One more time--impeachment, as I said, is NOT--like a bunch of fucking dunces seem to think it is--a PUNISHMENT. It is a tool to remove a person from office, that's all it is. There's no frog marching, no jailing, nothing of the sort. It's also a LONG and distracting process that would bring us President Cheney. If the President can be constrained by a legislature, there's no need to impeach. Impeachment is a solution in search of a problem at this stage.

--Revenge isn't a reason for removing someone from office. Unless you're a stupid fucking idiot.

We're done. You keep stewing. And do look me up when that impeachment goes down, mmmm-kay? So you can rub my nose in it!!!

impeachment will not happen.

impeachment is not a punishment it is a start. admitting wrongdoings were done is the way to start.

nancy and harry were elected well before but since those elections they have been negligent in their duties

you neglected to hit upon my specific questions so I will suppose you cannot defend your position.

creating sympathy is not a good defense to not go ahead with impeachment.

you cannot defend your decisions in a rational manner, I attack their effectivness as administrators for congress and for the democratic party. They have both failed and you have failed in your pitifull attempts to defend them.

100. What specific questions? Your general "rambles" are anything but.
You mumble some bullshit about FISA. WHAT about FISA, specifically? You cannot spell, you cannot construct a decent sentence, and you certainly cannot make your points in clear fashion, yet you want people to pay attention to your rambling bullshit?

If you cannot articulate yourself like a sentient adult, I don't particularly care to waste my time with you. When you act like a dunce, I'll treat you like one.

And too bad if that hurts your feelings, because it's deserved. I DO converse rationally, and I back up what I say. You, OTOH, fling little crap bomblet-insults and engage in a mixture of drama and high dudgeon to deflect from the plain fact that you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. AT ALL.

You delight in posting commentary that sounds like it is coming from a teen-aged, dense, lunatic-blowhard, and then you get angry when no one takes you seriously.

That's your problem, you know--your "failure to communicate." Not mine.

if you need it spelled out (sorry for my teenage angst)

why do you support nancy when she stated that impeachment was off the table when the country was clamouring for it and when it was evident that wrong doing had occured

why do support harry when he allows the republicans to do an "easy filibuster" and win every time but he punishes the dems for trying to filibuster the FISA with retroactive immunity

neither of these are exusable.

102. I told you why, you dullard who does not read.
It's off the fucking table because it isn't a PUNISHMENT. It won't HELP. It won't make anything BETTER. You're astoundingly obtuse.

And if you want more specificity, there is no "evidence" (even though you say it is evidently apparent) of anything. See, you have to 'gather' evidence. You do that through testimony, at trial. Trials take a long time, to include preparation and testimony and deliberation. Since the goal of the trial, at the end of the day, would be REMOVAL and nothing more, the same result can be accomplished through legislative constraint.

It is a solution in search of a problem. It wouldn't help the situation, it wouldn't make government run better (we would get Cheney) and it would create a groundswell of sympathy for the GOP. Only a stupid person would want it at this stage of the game. It would also distract the Congress from more pressing work. Nothing passes save CRs while those proceedings are underway.

Your statement about Reid is false. That's the answer to that non-question.

You keep mentioning FISA and Dodd, but you don't ask a question. FISA ain't done yet--you do know that, don't you? Or maybe you don't. And why are you CRYING about Dodd's filibuster threat? Don't you fucking understand that politicians who are batting for the same team frequently give one another cover? Naaah, you probably don't know THAT either. You think rather...CONCRETELY.

That's not a good thing in the political sphere.

Here, read Harry's view on the matter, from his own office: http://democrats.senate.gov/newsroom/record.cfm?id=289303&

You just love to be .... aggrieved. Why, I don't know. What the fuck will you do with yourself with a Democratic Congress AND a Democrat in the White House? Join the Greens, and gripe some more?

77. Hey Hey what's all the Fisty cuffs here?
First off we don't know why they will not Impeach him(can you spell blackmail?). Second Nancy has not done what the people made her speaker for and that was to get us out of Iraq!(If you don't believe that I would say the majority in congress is a direct result of voters fed up with repugs, on super tuesday almost 16million votes were cast for two democratic candidates yet the same day the four repugs running only mustered 8 million votes combined does that not say something about who will be winning next fall. Look at your sigline and remember it is the peoples bidding that they are supposed to be doing not the corporations and warmongers! As for San Franciscans they might be fed up with Nancy too! I will give more money to help Pelosi get the message if you don't listen to your district you might be in trouble! Look at the web site and you will see they have done it 4 times last time was October 7th, 2007. I don't know when they will do it again but I believe they are going to before the primary in June.

82. I support our Constitution, more than anyone else
I do not respect anyone more than those who completely support our Constitution and the spirit of the Law, when the Law is just. I think that things have gone overboard in this country, yet it is a Representative Republic. I would like to see Amendments added to our Constitution to make this nation more Democratic. I have found that some members of Congress do not seem to support the People as much as others. Rep. Kucinech has been a thorough Representative of the People. This is why I love him. Rep. Pelosi seems more in line with the interests of the Very Rich and Connected, this is why I am skeptical of her.

Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 04:13 PM by youngharry
MADam,
Apparently you are not aware what is happening in the Halls of Congress or you wouldn't be taking such an ignorant position. It's quite simple, either we are a country of laws or we are not. Either we have a Constitution or we don't. Nancy Pelosi is taking the position that there isn't a Constitution and that Laws of this country are to be ignored. She believes wrongly that she has the authority to over-ride the Constitution. SHE DOESN'T. SHE CAN'T TAKE IMPEACHMENT OFF THE TABLE. SHE HAS NO RIGHT TO DO THAT AND IT IS A VIOLATION PF HER OATH OF OFFICE AND A CRIME AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION FOR NOT HONORING THE SECTION ABOUT DEFENDING THIS COUNTRY AGAINST FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC ENEMIES, ETC.

Regarding Reid, how can he allow a Bill to come to the floor that gives immunity to telecoms for illegally wiretapping our phones and computers, thus ignoring the Bill that came out of the Intelligence Committee without immunity clause. Sorry, but no Senator and no President has the right to take away my and your guaranteed 4th Amendment Rights, especially when the telecoms were violating the Constitution even before 9/11.

Sorry MADam, you are way off base unless you are a paid propagandists for the right-wing or work for Pelosi or Reid. You are intellectually and morally dishonest.

104. My mileage varies. I used to work up on the Hill. I see what they are doing.
You might not like their taking "the long way home" but they are ensuring us a Democratic majority that will last for a long, long, time, while people like you who want what YOU want, NOW, would give us more of the GOP same as a consequence of reactionary backlash by ignorant voters who view these proceedings as a wonky little soap opera.

I don't know if you realize this, but Reid AND Pelosi do coordinate with one another on the way legislation moves--and they even provide COVER for one another. Reid certainly needs help, as he doesn't have the comfortable majority that Pelosi enjoys. That's why we see situations like THIS: http://www.denverpost.com/opinion/ci_8274684 http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?parm1=5&docID=news-000002671712

Sorry, I'll stick with the people who know what the fuck they're doing. Thanks for your 'concern' though. And as for intellectual and moral dishonesty, your characterization of me is false, but I will say that you are intellectually "unaware" -- I won't comment on your moral character, because your misstatements could be put down to simple ignorance and not mendacity.

I dunno if you haven't realized it, but Congress recessed without acting on FISA (sky has not fallen) and they intend to keep discussing it when they return.

I completely support everyones right to like and support whomever he or she may, yet, the Constitution literally demands impeachment for Monkey Boy and Lord Vader. You may support Speaker Pelosi's position against impeachment, but I would like to remind you that she swore to uphold our Constitution, and when a President, and VP have violated the Constitution this excessively, for the sake of prosperity, we must impeach them.

110. No, the Constitution does not "demand" anything.
It's up to the House and Senate to do as they see fit. It's not a matter than is mandated, on autopilot, without the involvement of human decision-making.

Judgment IS a factor. If the same result can be achieved by caging Bush as removing him, it upsets our nation less to be tossing Presidents--even ones who deserve it--under the bus.

You might not like that, but that's the truth.

once candidate (DK) has always voted for the american people, He has stood up and tried very hard to do what the party would not

I see a vast differance between the two and contributing money to one and contributing money to the others opponent.

It implies nobody has a right to run against DK, but others are near-obligated to run against Pelosi.

And faulting one opponent for taking "outside money" while trying to encourage outside money for another opponent is the height of hypocrisy.

It has nothing to do with who the individuals are. It's just ridiculous thinking.

individuals that own corporations and companies are giving candidates money. Now why would someone who is living outside the sphere of influence of the seat in question contribute to the campaign? Thats why I say their is a corporatist influence in that race

as far as nancy's race goes I have not looked very hard at all of her contenders war chests and see who has contributed but it looks like her opponents are not asking for contributions in exchange for favors, it looks like citizens who feel they can do a better job then nancy.

"...Cimperman raised more than $39,000 from fifteen contributors, none of whom reside in the 10th District that is being contested. Cimperman is no different from these contributors. He doesn't live in the district either but that doesn't matter to the lawyers, bankers and real estate developers who are giving him money."

How fucking typical...Wake up America!:kick:

73. Kucinech is One of the Greatest Representatives Alive
I have had problems with the Democratic Party Myself. In fact when I first tried to join I was not allowed to, and even though 28, was told to join the Young Democrats. Big Money, and Big Corporations are unfortunately in control of the Democratic Party, and not the People. Even though the Democratic Party overall represents More of the People than the Reptilian Party, it too is full of elitist who could care less about the desires of the majority. Power corrupts. People who seek political power, in order to not be corrupted, must always humble themselves into serving the People and not their own interests. Not easy! Human nature being what it is, we must continually strive to increase Democracy, and currently, I am backing the Democratic Party thinking that it is the best hope for serving the People.

81. Is anyone else as sick and
fucking tired of the two party system as I am? From both sides of the aisle these lame lying asshats got only one objective. To keep their phony baloney do-nothing jobs and support the PARTY. I guess that is two objectives. Who pays for all this weak bullshit? We do. The parties prop up a few moldering corpses and tell us we have a choice! Just like Lewis Black said. You can choose Bowl of Shit A or Bowl of Shit B. Either way you get a Bowl of Shit. It does not matter who is elected, all we will get is more war, war, war. More inflation, more of the Corporate State shoved up our asses. Karl Rove's dream is going to come true. He dreamt of the destruction of the country and it is happening. Fuck super power status, we are becoming just what the Corporate State wants, a third world country.

87. I am not happy with the 2 Party System, yet....
I believe that the whole of the Federal Government needs to be overhauled. I would like to see a 3rd Constitutional Convention. I believe that the Abuse of our Government by the Very Wealthy is excessive, and needs to end. I would like to see more proportional representation in our House of Representatives.

Check this out:

A book came out written by Larry J. Sabato, Towards a More Perfect Constitution, nonfiction.

I believe in liberty and justice for all people. I believe that the Democratic Party is the lesser of 2 evils, but members of both parties have backes unconstitutional laws, and the Senators have approved Judges who are not committed to protecting our constitution. Many people out to be removed from their positions because of this. I will never be a Republican again. I started my political life 25 years ago as one, but after seeing their lies, and excesses, no more. The Democratic Party has its own sordid, and sickening history. I had been an asworned Independent, then Bush. Now I am committed to supporting the Democratic Party.

108. The whole system is sick and contaminated with money-
the only solution is a complete re-building. Makes me long for the days when tarring and feathering and riding them out of town on a rail seemed a good idea.

93. Pelosi & Reid MUST GO - ASAP if we are to repair
what's left of our Democracy an have a chance of keeping it.

WE are to blame for this mess because WE have not stood up to the Elite Scum that have taken over the Democratic party (and republican party for that matter).
