I love it how Al Gore really is the biggest wheel in the party now.

Remember how the media scorned him after he quote unquote "lost" the 2000 election to W? Remember how they made fun of his weight gain and beard?

Seven years and one Oscar, Emmy, and NOBEL PRIZE later...the man is at the head of the class. The only other person as powerful AND popular as he is now WAS Bill Clinton, but he's sullied that good faith by wading into Hillary's campaign with his sword drawn. Carter? He's not as powerful as he once was. Dean, popular, but both he and Carter have serious problems making headway into the independent crowd. Unhappily, they still view Carter as a weakling and Dean as a guy who lost the nomination because of a microphone problem. It's unfair, but true...

Gore is a different story. He's admired and popular at home and abroad. And in terms of respect...in LBN, there's a NYT article about an important meeting to figure out an exit strategy in case the convention turns into an Obama/Clinton deadlock between superdelegates. "Mr. Gore and other leading Democrats" is how one paragraph puts it. "The party elders" is another.

It warms the cockles of my heart to see that the guy accused of being a drone and even "Just Like Bush" (!) now has respect at last. :)

pledge to vote Dem if Big AL were the VP Candidate.
