1. So you're excluding straight males?
Isn't that, like, sexist heterophobia or something?

3. it is an issue... to the wingnuts
this has got to be one of the worst cases of reading something that isn't there I've seen.

I suppose the Periodic Table of the Elements is sexists as well?
And systems administrators who "periodically query access to sensitive files" must be doubly so.

34. sexism IS a legitimate issue... regardless of *your gender
but the OP of the referenced thread made 2 'points' (I use that term very loosely)

1) Obama was being sexist by using the word 'periodically'

I think this is really reaching far for something to be outraged at.
the periodic table of the elements is not sexist, nor is the use of periods in schools, sports, or anyplace else to describe something that is, in fact, a periodic event.
The terms period and periodic were in common use long before they were ever used to describe the menstrual cycle.

2) An article from 1970 shows that there were some royal asses in the party.

I have no idea what this has to with Obama and because of that it seems, to me, like a well placed piece of propaganda.
Not that I doubt anything about the veracity of the story, but it's placed in proximity to the subject (Obama in this case) in the hopes of working up rage that will be associated with that subject.
Much like propaganda that comes from Rush or Hannity or Malkin or any other hack.

33. Its easy, really
I call myself a Democrat about the same way as I call myself a middle-aged lesbian.

By the way,in recognition of your recent interest in grammatical form, you may be interested that the first word in a sentence is capitalized.

15. "mood swings" are a "code word" for BOTH "PMS" and "Menopause."
Angela Merkle seems to be okay with that...so was Margaret Thatcher and hosts of "other women" who seem to not get slung with insults like here in America.

The amount of horseshit in that forum is astonishing.

More than a few people engaged, BTW. Ignored threads sink with fewer than ten posts. This one had more than sixty.

23. Of being the word police..
... of crying racism, sexism, whatever at people saying things that are completely innocuous. The words Obama used hardly rise to the level of anything, and the endless carping over ever damn statement that could possibly maybe offend someone is ridiculous.

20. I'm Not Sure There's Much Point
If the straw poll in that forum was accurate, 75% of the people who use that forum are in favor of the other candidate. Of that number, some 50% don't seem to care what methods are used, 30% don't see it as an offense, and the other 20% are just too tired.

Even without all that, I'm at the point where it's "fuck, just give them some more rope."

37. "I'm Not Sure There's Much Point"
How dare you , Sir.
The word, "point", is a well known codeword for "Period",which, as we have learned here, is a word that demeaned women during the 1970's by inferring that females were unfit for office because of their hormones.

How dare you, Crisco.
How Dare you!

32. I watched him say that via CSPAN.
There is no there there except as ABC frames it to stir things up between the campaigns because that's good for the story.

In fact, he said it pretty quietly and in a measured way as if he was trying to be careful and there was none of the vindictiveness that is being ascribed to him. The context wasn't there.

35. I saw him say it and his "measured, quiet way" made it sound
even worse...because it was so carefully calculated. But...hey...folks can hear things differently. It's not the first time he's made comments about Hillary that are "questionable" to many females, though. I'd rather him hit her only policies than go after her gender. We didn't like it when Bill introduced "race" into the conversation.

Better for the candidates to slam each other on policy difference. But...perhaps there isn't much difference between them?

39. There's very little light between them that I can see, anyway.
So, the campaigns have become about the campaigns.

In any case, it's hard to read raging hormones into that statement. If anything, the sentence says she uses her agency, not the reverse.
