When we leave Iraq...
There will be a fight for power. This civil war will start under the next president if the Democrats are elected, make no mistake, we have seen this movie before. Guatemala's government was crushed by the US and 30 years of civil war followed.

The US government is helpless against this, that is why Bush is putting off any withdrawl. The fight for power will happen, and it will be the worst fighting we will see in Iraq.

With that said. I believe the Democrats must win, I just wanted to give a reality check.

1. I'm still a firm believer in Biden's Iraq Exit Strategy --
we should at least TRY to help restore some peace and healing. If we can't, we can't - but we must make an effort.

5. I would just feel so ashamed (even MORE ashamed) if we just cut our losses
and split.

If we DO do that, I would volunteer with some organization to go over there and help out however I could. That's how strongly I feel about our responsibility to these people.

6. If I Thought It Would Do Any Good
I would recommend staying but I am sure it won't. As for going over there to help, not a good idea. Iraqis have very good reason to hate us.

7. As I understand it, Biden's plan doesn't propose "staying".

It would work with the factions to come to some kind of an agreement, as they have in their Constitution. Our combat troops would begin to withdraw immediately. I believe it calls for UN participation as well as participation from Iran and Turkey.

And you may be right - it might not do any good and maybe wouldn't work. But I still strongly feel we need to make an attempt. We owe it to them.

As for me going over there, I'm afraid they probably wouldn't take me at my age, but if they would, I feel so strongly about THAT, too, that I'd be willing to take the chance.

EDIT to add -- I DO see your point, though. Just remove the cancer.

9. A 100 year effort perhaps. I think we have done enough for the good people of Iraq. The way I
feel about it, the longer we are there, the more screwed up it's going to be. Hell, we are loosing our freedoms in this country. What makes you believe we are going to be able to do anything positive over there?

3. We will be very lucky to get our people and some of their
equipment out of there without a major bloodbath.
