Joseph I. Lieberman has endorsed John McCain of Arizona.

By MICHAEL POWELL
Published: February 18, 2008

WASHINGTON — His official portrait sits in a closet at the Connecticut Democratic Party headquarters in Hartford. Party elders have stripped him of his superdelegate cape.

Eight years ago, Joseph I. Lieberman nearly became the Democratic vice president, running with Al Gore.

And he is so disinterested in the Democratic presidential candidates — though he counts both as friends — that he declined to vote in his state’s primary.

Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, not so long back the Democratic nominee for vice president, has become chief endorser, campaign companion and all-around champion for his buddy Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican presidential standard-bearer.

So inseparable are these men lately that the question often arises: Would Mr. Lieberman consider another tilt at the vice presidential lists, this time on the Republican ticket?

2. Liebermann has what, four years left on this term? Or is CT lucky
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 09:36 AM by Ilsa
enough to have only two years left with this disloyal man?

On edit: I guess it's a good thing that he isn't hiding it.

7. Ugh. More Joe. IS the CT governorship a powerful one?
The Texas governship is practically a figurehead, except when it comes to pardons and commutations for death row.

14. Certainly more powerful than Texas...
...it's been a weird run since weicker was governor...he created the Connecticut Party that got Rowland in--the Dems and CT party split the regular Dems, and corrupt Rowland got in as a Repuke, sort of a fluke, but then kept getting re-elected. The governor now...whose name escapes me...she is actually more liberal than the Dems. she took over when Rowland resigned to go to prison, and she's actually well-liked and the Dems really have no one with state-wide appeal just now.

4. The Ned Lamont race was just back in '06, so it is 4 yrs to go
I soooo want a solid majority in the Senate this year, this is one thing that should go above and beyond the Obama-Clinton brouhaha.

Just imagine the warm, fuzzy feeling we'll have when the Senate leadership tells Lieberman to go pound sand when we don't need him any longer to form a majority.

:toast:

He was elected in November '06 to a 6 year term, which started in January '07. We're not quite 2 months into '08, the second year. OK, We could do this like my GWB countdown calendar: 4 years, 10 months, and 11 days to go.

I've got a feeling he's gonna be this year's Zell Miller at the GOP convention but he won't be McCain's Veep. Johnny's in trouble with the GOP hardliners as it is and he won't throw this gasoline on that fire.

Methinks that day of sand pounding will be in January next year. He might still caucus with us but I'm hoping his committee assignments will vaporize then.

8. What a waste of good closet space!
Even in a down and not quite out city like Hartford.

10. They had no alternative but to use the closet
The frame was too big to fit in the trash can or the toilet.

11. They could back it with cork and hang it back up.
What a handy dartboard that would make! I believe in recycling.
