The Bush/Cheney Administration Takes Us for Idiots
by Dave Lindorff | February 18, 2008

Anybody who thinks that the government is telling the truth about the plan to shoot down a dead spy satellite--that it's all about protecting us, and not about testing an anti-satellite weapon--has to be really stupid.

And stupid is what the Bush administration and the Pentagon apparently think we are.

They're claiming they need to shoot this thing down because it's got a tank with 1000 pounds of hydrazine, a fuel used for maneuvering satellites while in orbit which is said to be as toxic as chlorine if breathed.

Well, the odds of a tank of hydrazine surviving an 18,000 mph plunge into the atmosphere intact and making it to the ground is basically zero. That sucker will heat up to a fine redhot glow and blow up before it even makes it to the stratosphere.

snip//

We have had eight years of government by lying. It's not that lies and deception weren't practiced by governments before the advent of the Cheney/Bush regime, but this administration more than any other before it clearly believes that democracy and integrity are simply obstacles to power, and has worked assiduously to try to eliminate them entirely from Washington.

It's past time to bring a little integrity and openness back.

1. The Bush/Cheney Administration takes us for idiots because that fact has been proven over and over
again since the 2000 Republican Convention. Eos. :D

7. The fact that 80-90% of the populace have not voiced strenuous opposition to every major facet
of the Bush-Cheney PNAC agenda is proof of a virulent, quite possibly lethal, national idiocy for clearly more than 80-90% of the populace have been individually harmed big time by their agenda, not to mention the Constitution having trashed, illegal pre-emptive war their modus operandi, and trillions of dollars sprinkled upon their ilk from the Federal treasury. :D

I do not trust this government at all. Is there anyway that this can be stopped?

China is not too happy either.

just a snip from the article.

China is concerned by U.S. plans to shoot down an ailing spy satellite and is considering what "preventative measures" to take, the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

"The Chinese government is paying close attention to how the situation develops and demands the U.S. side fulfill its international obligations and avoids causing damage to security in outer space and of other countries," spokesman Liu

5. One wonders what sort of incriminating evidence there is on that satellite
or just how desperate cheney is to start WWIII to save his own sorry ass.

They fire scientists who won't wear their choke chains, they lie us into war and STILL won't admit what we all know now, they tear up the Constitution, they use people for profits, they want immunity for their law breaking corporate partners.

Past time for some integrity and openness! A-men, sister!

8. Didn't they ever think to install a self-destruct mechanism before it was launched?

Rocket scientists ... hoo-boy.

A small but effective self-destruct device would have cost maybe a few thousand bucks. But that's probably nothing compared to what it will cost to destroy it from the ground.
