You know .... that beef recall was the result NOT of federal inspectors, but of a Humane Society ..
.... undercover operation.

Two meat company employees were fired. Big fucking deal. There's no way on earth two 'rogue' employees were the cause of all this. It was systematic and it was likely a long standing modus operandi.

The American food supply is vulnerable, at risk, often tainted, and largely unregulated, thanks to seven years of Unfettered Republicanism™.

Downer cattle in the food supply. Another American Family Value brought to you by Republicans for the sole purpose of enriching Republicans.

You Desire/We Conspire

We Deceive/You Receive

Fuck You Americahahahahaha

25. Cooking doesn't destroy the protein(s) that causes BSE...
only incineration can.

Eat Charcoal.

28. Research in England (which had a serious BSE problem)
showed that at least some BSE prion strands remained intact even after incineration at 1,500 degrees centigade (!)

Fortunately the likelihood that any cattle in the US would have BSE is very low and it's one thing the normally ineffectual USDA tends to get very excited about.

Most of the beef has already been consumed ...... by school kids, who were the primary customer of these people.

Why am I reminded of Irwin Mainway?

7. To OP, yup. And didn't they recently pass something saying cattle people could NOT check
privately for BSE? Something along the line that gvt checking is minimal, will be less, and don't let private meat people check their cattle even if they want to?

14. YES! I remember the personal outrage.
And the reduction in my beefy habits because of it.

A boutique cattle farm wanted to test privately and use the tests in their marketing. The federal government refused to allow it. I would have bought that beef.

26. Is it that they're not allowed to test or
That they're not allowed to advertise that they test?

Subtle difference I know, but I can't remember it clearly.

31. Not allowed to test. After all, people might not buy regular beef then.
And that might be discriminatory. I really don't understand that logic, except Big Beef industry has shitloads of money to lobby with. Rather like the old food square thing, when they changed it to food triangle and Big Beef lobbied/spent a lot to try to keep eating meat as important as eating vegs/fruits. I'm not a conspiracy nut either, by the way. Big Beef, Big Tobacco, Big Pharm. Bah.

FEMA @ Katrina, sell the ports to Dubai, HOMELAND F****** SECURITY, private industry war, the Clean Air Act (and all of its cousins...Forests, Waterways, Endangered Species), the most-expensive & unattainable health care system in the world...i could go on, by why bother.

These f***ers could care less if we get poisoned by bad food, bad toys, bad air, bad water, bad f****** dirt...they are the SPOILERS and they ain't planning on sticking around to clean up their own shit.

17. The HSUS report was out near the end of January.
It naturally didn't make much of a splash. Even here on DU the subject was pooh-poohed.

20. What, like you can see everything?
Come on! There's a lot of news every day.

Honestly, it did (and it still does) piss me off that there are people who'd rather believe that they're safe than question their 'food' supply because of the source. There's video, fer crissakes. Go ahead and hate HSUS, but this shit is real.
