One advantage of not being in the states right now is, real news
and let me tell you folks, while the US Press is still amused by the current road to the white house (circus really), the rest of the world is a tad worried by a real pandora's box in Kosovo. Most folks are aware of the history of that area and the mess that it has been. No, the wars in that area of the world did not start under Clinton. Oh no... the first war in that area in the modern period was right before WW I... and Russia sided with Serbia... if that looks familiar, right now, it should.

I know, our wonderful Secretary of State is still fighting the USSR...

This is fun, ain't it... having a chair besides what might be a real world crisis...

Of course, that is just one example of the messes around the world... and why folks really don't want to know I carry a US passport.

There are days...

By the way this wasn't a pleasure trip... in case any of you wonder.

1. Oh, Nadine...
Stop making sense, woman....

This is DemocraticUnderground.com, for Dog's sake.

We are far to busy with forming a circular firing squad to recognize any reality.

Give it a break, will you...

Tom

4. Mexico City
and it is wonderful to have BBC, CNN=I (not the same animal as CNN), CNN Latin America, not the same animal, Deutche Welle, CNBC, and then some.

By the way, if they made a lot of noise over the explosion here the other day... it wasn't as bad as KTLA made it sound like... though it was a bomb and right now there are efforts to down play that

;-)

Yep, every where you get amusing things.

There has been war in that little part of Europe since people started to settle there...

5. Yep, in the balkans, but not against Serbia
the ruskies have supported the Serbs (for religious reasons) for at least 500 years

The serbs are christians, and the Kosovars, as well as other minorities are muslim

7. Once again the US is fueling the flames
especially with Bush's statement today.

I'm afraid he will get his war, some where if he can't get it with Iran.

I haven't seen a EU statement on this situation yet have You?

8. Not yet but Spain, and a couple other members are
very worried

Now the analyst (from the National University here) said that the Russians drew a red line in Kosovo over the expansion of NATO

So that could be serious

As is, there is a UN security Council Emergency Meeting and trust me, Serbia will not just fold hands

9. Kosovo was on the news here, though briefly.
Showed people celebrating there; showed bush recognizing it as a country. And yeah, also mentioned that Serbia is not happy, nor is Russia.

10. It was on BBC, Deutche Welle and CNNI all day
as well as national news.

The level of analysis was superb as well... and I reminded myself, we used to have that at one time...
