I got one of THOSE e-mails today.

Some of you may have also gotten it in your InBox recently - apparently it's making the rounds.

It was an article from the February 9 Aspen (CO) Times Weekly entitled, "In Election 2008, Don't Forget Angry White Man" by a Gary Hubbell, who I assume is not a happy black woman. Full article available HERE, if you can stomach it.

It's one helluva piece of work, all right. Every bit as bad a chunk of political "analysis" as you would expect, and then some. A paean to the racist, misogynistic, homophobic "he-man" that every right-wing fucktard idolizes as the platonic ideal of masculinity and secretly wants to fellate.

How to sum up the offensiveness of this article? I don't know that I can. All I can do is quote it to demonstrate its odiousness, trying my damnedest to stay within the DU guidelines for article quoting.

His common traits are that he isn’t looking for anything from anyone — just the promise to be able to make his own way on a level playing field. In many cases, he is an independent businessman and employs several people. He pays more than his share of taxes and works hard.

Oh, and of course, he's White. And a Man. And, dare I say, Angry. Because all black folks, and Asians, and women and, I guess, non-angry-people are looking to take advantage of the good nature of the "Angry White Man".

He believes the Constitution is to be interpreted literally, not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of a panel of judges who have never worked an honest day in their lives.

Really? Well, then, the "Angry White Man" must be simply SCREAMING for the democrats to regain the White house! Because, I don't know if anyone's looked lately? But the "literal interpreters" like Scalia and Thomas and Roberts and Alito? Yeah. They don't really seem to give a shit about the constitution. Whether it's unconstitutionally installing a president by Judicial fiat, or allowing the president to issue thousands of signing statements (a concept I don't really see anywhere in MY copy of the Constitution) to subvert the laws drafted by the Congress, the republican-appointed members of the judiciary from the Supremes on down have been a nightmare.

Curiously, the author fails to address the gang-raping of the constitution that has occurred since Federalist Society Membership became a pre-requisite for Judicial service. Hmm. Go figure.

The Angry White Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun to defend his home and his country. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone who needs killing really doesn’t bother him.

The Angry White Man is not a metrosexual, a homosexual or a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane Katrina — he got his people together and got the hell out, then went back in to rescue those too helpless and stupid to help themselves, often as a police officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter.

I have a question for those "Angry White Men" who sit around their basement oiling the long, firm barrels of their high-powered guns that are in NO WAY a substitute for anything Freudian at all:

Exactly WHAT would the government have to do to that constitution before the "Angry White Men" would load up their guns and go out and "use that second amendment to defend all the others"?

• Start illegally eavesdropping on our communications without warrants in violation of the 4th amendment?
  
• Disallow effective political protest and free assembly by creating so-called "free speech zones" - fenced in areas completely removed from any attention by the subject of said protest or the media?
  
• Force people to incriminate themselves in direct violation of the 5th amendment by engaging in forms of torture that were used in the Spanish Inquisition, and for which we EXECUTED Japanese torturers after WWII?

Let me know when I should stop. It seems to me that the "Angry White Male" would only ever use his guns to defend one specific amendment: the one that grants him the right to OWN his high-powered, death-dealin' penile proxy.

I do think there is a bigger picture here, that the Democratic party does at times seem to go out of it's way to stick it's finger in the eye of the white male, with immigration levels, H-1b visas, WEO, NAFTA, MFN-China etc, all of which went in on a Democrat presidency. Certainly no offense was intended towards cutters, emo or otherwise.

I used to know a girl (tangentially) who was a cutter - she always blamed the scars on her parrot. Always felt bad for her, and for the bird. Good luck trying to stop. I can't claim to understand the specifics of cutting, but I can definitely sympathize with not being able to easily stop a behavior you know is destructive.

Guess that little bit of empathy makes me a "dishrag" in the eyes of all those "Angry White Men". Oh well.
