Is there ANYTHING our government does that's more pointless than the Cuba Embargo? |
|
(Besides the fucking war, of course.)
And I really, REALLY wish that even ONE of our candidates would have the guts to say so. But or course, like any politician, they're in thrall to the Miami Cubans. Not as much as Republican politicians are, but still...
And, because there always seems to be a DUer or two who has the answer to any question I ask, can someone educate me on why the Miami Cubans still have such a fucking hard-on about Cuba, and are so adamant that we keep the embargo going?
I just don't get it.

1. The Feds pay attention because they all live in Florida. |
|
They think that they stand to inherit stuff taken from their parents or grandparents when the revolution came.

2. I'm sure there are plenty of pointless things they're doing. |
|
But the Cuba embargo is bullshit, for sure.

considering our endless kissing up to China and Saudi Arabia who have horrific records on human rights. Guess Cuba doesn't have anything we want so playing like we really give a shit is easy.

4. It is anything but "pointles" but the point is totally outdated and ridiculous. |
|
The point is that we can make an alternate economic system look worst than the one we support IF we wage constant war on it, to assure that we are right and they are wrong (just in case we are wrong).

8. They were punishing Castro for not handing over Cuba and that's all. |
|
People don't remember that he came here before he went to the Soviets.
And, our price was too steep
Now, the same establishment points to Cuba as a failure when they were in part responsible for Castro's bunker mentality in the first place.
Cuba will be fine. Our policy has isolated us more than it has isolated Cuba.

9. Yeah, I've read my history, and I knew that. I was wondering more about the |
|
Miami Cubans, and someone did give the the answer.
How are you these days? I know you were going through a rough patch a while ago. Hope it's gotten better for you.

weren't out in full force because Castro wasn't confirmed dead.

16. Especially because so many Cubans are so brown, they're black? AND, they're smart, |
|
well-educated, and hardworking "brownish people" to boot?
I believe you've noted a NON-imaginary similarity, right there.

17. it sure seems pointless |
|
Castro seemed willing to work with the US. Had the US been more friendly to the idea of nationalizing of industries that were basically colonial industries generating large profits for relatively few Cubans it would appear Cuba might have turned out more democratic years ago. At some point you would think actually having relations with such a nearest neighbor would help generate the results our country seeks from that country.
