Probation For Anthrax Hoaxer Chad "The UnaFreeper" Castagana
Probation For Anthrax Hoaxer
Man mailed threat letters to "liberal" targets like Stewart, Pelosi

FEBRUARY 14--The California man convicted of sending threatening letters containing a white powder to public figures like David Letterman and Jon Stewart has been sentenced to probation and ordered to check into a halfway house, where he will be required to take medications recommended by doctors. Chad Castagana, 40, will remain in the Gateways Community Corrections Center for as long as staff at the Los Angeles facility deem appropriate, though his stay there cannot exceed his five-year probationary term, according to the below U.S. District Court order. Castagana was also ordered not to contact any of the six recipients of his mailed threats. Castagana, who has described himself as a "compulsive" Republican voter, was convicted at trial last year of mailing threatening letters in 2006 to celebrities and politicians he considered too liberal (other recipients were Rep. Nancy Pelosi, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann, and Viacom boss Sumner Redstone). The powder in the Castagana letters--some of which you'll find here--was either baking soda or detergents, which apparently was meant to mimic anthrax. Castagana was sentenced after his examination by a court-appointed psychiatrist, Dr. Saul Faerstein, whose report was not included in public court records. (7 pages)

Psych review for felon who mailed threats to Olbermann, Stewart

JANUARY 15--The California man (and self-described "compulsive" Republican voter) who sent threatening letters containing a white powder to a variety of public figures he thought were too liberal is being examined by a court-appointed psychiatrist in advance of his sentencing on 14 felony counts. Chad Castagana, 40, was convicted last year of mailing the letters during a two-month period in late-2006.

The missives, sent from Woodland Hills, contained either baking soda, laundry detergent, or Ajax, substances that apparently were meant to be mistaken for anthrax or another deadly agent. As seen in the government trial exhibits on the following pages, Castagana sent threats to, among others, Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, media mogul Sumner Redstone, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Castagana referred to Redstone as "Mr. Monopolist" and Pelosi as "Rep. Cuntface."

In one of six letters sent to Stewart, Castagana included a lewd photo of dead tsunami victim captioned, "Fuck your wife." U.S. District Court Judge Florence-Marie Cooper has ordered Castagana to be examined by Dr. Saul Faerstein, a Beverly Hills psychiatrist who will provide the court with his diagnosis of Castagana, along with recommendations regarding treatment and medication.

When he was arrested, Castagana told FBI agents he was a "compulsive voter who votes Republican" and that he did not like the "liberal politics" of the individuals he sent the threat letters, according to a court filing. As he was being driven to jail, however, Castagana's political hard line appeared to evaporate. He commented that he "hoped for a 'liberal judge.' Defendant then added that he thought it was very 'ironic' that he hoped for a liberal judge." (6 pages)

31. Thirded.
That's just more fuel on the fire to allow him back on there. I mean, after some of the shit I've seen on there, no wonder. He probably got poked and prodded just the way they did with the lady and the Mexican restaurant and posting pictures of her child.

Mailing threatening envelopes filled with something designed to inspire terror makes you a terrorist. At the very least, he should have been charged under the various postal offenses about mailing dangerous items - those carry prison time. A plea of not responsible by mental defect should have gotten him commitment somewhere.

They've just let him back out to do it again.

The camera might steal his soul.

He has no friends to take the photo for him.

He is afraid the camera will show his lack of reflection.

Up to date pictures give the liberal conspirators a better chance of tracking you.

The implants the CIA put in his brain tell him no photos.

Or he may still be in high school - he is only 40 and a freeper after all.

Stephanie Miller Threatened With Death After Defending Cindy Sheehan On Hannity & Colmes
Reported by Ellen - October 30, 2006 - 66 comments

An unhinged viewer of Hannity & Colmes sent a death threat to Stephanie Miller because of her “top dog” appearance on October 13. Brad Blog has the complete letter from “Sock” Sokolowski, which begins “As with Cindy Sheehan, the best thing that could happen to you would be some WONDERFUL activist sticking an AK-47 up your Glory Holes and sending you into eternity.” Miller confronted Sock Sokolowski on her show this morning. Her blog has the audio. The video of the appearance that sent Sock over the edge is after the jump.

The only photo available is a grade school photo. The news outlets didn't get a recent photo, and this guy has not done one interview in the media. In this day and age, that's really strange.

As for the sentence, it's a slap on the wrist. He's a terrorist, plain and simple.

From: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15721895/

"On Tuesday, Olbermann spoke to "Radar" senior writer John Cook who has been covering the story. Cook said Castagana appeared to be admirers of conservative pundits Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and Laura Ingraham.

"Ann Coulter and Malkin...sort of present a kind of rhetorical world view where they have their troops out there," Cook said, "and I think he thought of himself as one of their troops and wanted to live up to their standards."

Looks like he's going to be the guest of an in-patient psychiatric facility for the next while - which is probably what he needs. Given that he probably has some massive mental health problems, and the letters didn't actually have anything harmful in them (akin to a gun loaded with blanks), then the sentence seems appropriate to me.

58. You mean the *gasp* Sex Offenders in Miami?
No! They're *evul*!

I agree with you. I think this guy was / is a threat, but ostensibly any danger that he presents to the public is caused by some sort of psychopathology, which is why he's being sentenced to a psych facility.

54. He had a public defender.
I'm sure he was among the first to urge cutting that program, until it was time for him to appear in court.

66. Is this the result of the Liberal Bashing by the Right Wing Media ?
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 11:30 PM by trthnd4jstc
In Kenya, In Rwanda, In the Former Yugoslavia. Hate of the Opponent. Hate Mongering. People Hate. They want to let it out. And then, terrible stuff happens. Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity, Coulter, Ingrahm, Liddy, Buchanen, and Savage, all the Other Haters of Liberals. Chad hears them. He Hates Libruls. He wants libruls to suffer. Hate Mongering can Kill. I am having a hard time not Hating my political opponents, but I think to myself that these types of methods have been deployed since the beginning of our Nation. Hate Mongering. Objectifying the Political Opponent. Blaming the World's Problems. Obsfucation. It will be a millenial battle against the forces of Power, and Wealth that are using Hate Mongers to keep getting their way. The Methods work. The Right Wing Media is Huge, 17 to 1. So much money and power. They have to hate those that love justice. They have to keep lieing. This is how they maintain their power. We must keep fighting and deconstructing their lies. Keep calling them out. They will never stop, and because of that we must never stop. Justice is not given freely. African Americans, and Women in this country were not given their just due by this government. We all had to fight for it. Native Americans, still have not gotten their due. Injustice is result of the Powerful getting their way. They know how to play both sides. This is why Olberman is out there. There is no Fair and Balanced. We need the Fairness Doctrine returned to the MSM to counteract the Hate Mongers.

and the letters were sent to members of the far right, the defendant would have gotten serious prison time....
