The only man with any right to take pride in his race. |
|
The only things one can justify taking pride in are one's own achievements.
The only man I know of with any right to take pride in being white is Michael Jackson. So far as I know, no-one has any right to take pride in belonging to any other race.
First-generation immigrants may, conceivably, be able to justify taking pride in their nationality, but no-one else can.
By all means get involved in the culture of your ancestors ("celebrate" in this context sets my teeth on edge, "enjoy" or "commemorate" are much more accurate & informative). I celebrate passover once a year, because my ancestors were practicing Jews and I like the sense of continuity.
But it's impossible to take pride in something without being proud not to not be it. And - unless you genuinely believe that belonging to some races is a sources of pride more than belonging to others - then that's foolish.
