I won't make many friends with this rant of mine (yeah, another TSS GD Rant) :)

If I ever ran for office I would make sure my wife and daughter never read DU or FR.

I see all too often folks posting about the looks of peoples' spouses when said person is running for office.

And then I hear 'oh grow up, it's just words', etc.

Ok. I grew up. I get that such things are just words. When will you grow up and realize you don't need to say them as they are not relevant? We all take bad photos (look at your driver's license pic....)

I don't care what bush's wife or mccain's wife looks like. I do care though about how people feel about themselves, even people I cannot stand.

It would wound my little girl to the quick if people made fun of her red hair, as they have at school. I have hugged her while she wept and told her not to let them get her down. Try as she might, it is human nature to be upset when people make fun of your looks.

When my wife was sick and in bed and gained weight, I would not have dreamed of making fun of her over that - or that her hair was all wild, etc.

I am going to grow old with her. She will turn gray, she will get sicker with parkinson's, and won't be able to walk into a room and turn heads.

But she will always be beautiful to me. And if she isn't to you, and if folks out there running for office have spouses that aren't pretty/handsome to you, well...keep it to yourself.

As a liberal I want to build people up, not tear them down (except those running for office, they are fair game). And shame on me when I have tore them down over looks. I guess sometimes we take the easy route and attack on looks. Maybe we shouldn't.

If the worst thing we can find about an opponent is how their spouse/kids look - well, that is sad.

All that said - bush is ugly as the day is long

1. In Bush's case it's the inner ugliness coming out
So it's perfectly understandable to make an exception for him.

:hi:

4. As always my friend
Thank you.

I hope someday we get to meet up, or maybe chat on the phone.

As long as I don't have to dial 1-900 to reach you... :)

7. Thank you for this post.
Well said. Especially how we should build each other up instead of tearing each other down.

10. Thank you--It drives me crazy when DUers with the mentality
of an pubescent boy feel the need to classify all females as "hot" or "ugly."

Over the years, I've received some sobering lessons in not judging people by their looks or disabilities.
That "ugly" woman may be one of the best-loved people in her community. That "fat" man may be a gifted artist. That person with a "hideous" disability may have a better love life than you.

11. I'm only sorry I can't recommend this more than once
There are very few people in our society that are physically perfect, but that's the expected standard. To tear others down because of their appearance is shallow at best and says that we truly don't believe the stuff we tell children -- "pretty is as pretty does," that it's even more important to be beautiful on the inside, etcetera.

I seem to remember multiple threads mocking one of Santorum's children. The little girl in question was crying in the photo. It's too bad that there are those here who would seek to damage a child because of the hatred that consumes them. Say whatever you like about her father's stupid ideas and less than brilliant policies, but leave her out of it. She's not old enough to defend herself in the first place, and secondly, she didn't ask to be born to that set of parents.

The family members of those who run for office didn't ask for the scrutiny. It's too bad they're subject to it.

we are better than this - we preach acceptance, we need to practice what we preach.

14. i guess when you know you really have it wupped is when not impressed with attractive
anymore than non attractive. i am saying, i see posts that went crazy over mccains wifes looks. i am no more impressed with her for looking good as i am unimpressed with someone who isnt good looking. looks mean squat..... of who a person is.
