"This baby is black. . . . It's a dark, ugly thing"
:wow:

Buttars - under siege for a week after saying of a bill he opposed, "This baby is black. . . . It's a dark, ugly thing" - said he wanted to meet with the NAACP board, but told them hours in advance that he wouldn't attend if the media were invited.

Jeanetta Williams, president of the Salt Lake chapter of the NAACP, said she was disappointed he didn't attend, and that the organization would do everything in its power to force him to resign.

"There is a gap between what you perceive your children are versus our children. . . . I dare Senator Buttars to refer to my black grandson as something ugly," said Lewis. "He wouldn't have said it if I had been standing there. He wouldn't have said this is a black, ugly baby."

Buttars was baffled by the reaction.

The organization also blasted Buttars for telling The Salt Lake Tribune on Monday that he has become a target of a "hate lynch mob" because of e-mails he has received condemning his remarks.

"The man knows nothing about what a lynch mob is," said Edward Lewis Jr., the former regional president of the NAACP, holding an article about a lynching in 1925 in Price. "It's an insult for the man to say he's being lynched when we know what real lynchings are."

Buttars was baffled by thereaction.

"Lynch mob is a Western term. You wouldn't find one person in 10,000 in Utah that thinks that's a racist term," Buttars said in a phone interview Tuesday evening. "That's not a racial term in my opinion. How do I know what words I'm supposed to use in front of those people?"

The easier to get rid of him by self inflicted political suicide. Racism should be brought to light and faced squarely by this country, not hidden behind a sock. There's way too much closet racism as it is. Besides, there isn't any room in his mouth since he already has his foot firmly planted there.

edited to add last sentence

6. Ah... "Those People"
This guy is too pig-ignorant stupid to know how insulting the phrase "those people" is.

There's no hope for this guy, at all. Ever. He relishes his stupidity.

13. Yup, that was the part that grabbed me, too.
Now he just needs to add, "Some of my best friends are colored!"

12. What was the bill he proposed?
If it's his bill then him referring to it as his "baby" makes sense. If he no longer likes it, or it has changed into something he doesn't like anymore, and possibly hurts people...then yes, it is a dark and ugly thing. I think it's a jump to take what he said about his bill and apply it to black children.

As for what he said after that, that's a whole other story...heh

14. It's funny how speech reveals so much...
about a person, except to the person speaking. And then those defending the speech pick apart a comment word by word to 'prove' that the statement in no way was racist. Obvious to all but those who still believe that these attitudes are righteous and justified.
