Smithsonian embracing Colbert picture
February 20, 1:47 AM

Stephen Colbert’s “portrait” has been hanging in Washington’s National Portrait Gallery for more than a month now.

So what’s been the reaction? Well, proving that Colbert can turn anyone and anything into a braggadocio just like himself, the Smithsonian’s high-definition channel is now airing an in-house ad of sorts, which includes some fan adoration for Colbert’s inclusion in the gallery.

A sample of the feedback:

» “He’s an amazing person.”

» “Colbert is essential to our existence.”

» “I think he’s the best.”

» “Obviously he’s really influential.”

» “If Stephen Colbert were running for president, I would definitely vote for him.”

» “He should be in the permanent collection.”

Whatever gets people in the door. …

The feedback has been so positive that the gallery has decided to hang on to Colbert’s portrait a bit longer than originally intentioned: You can check out Colbert in his spot near the restrooms until — you guessed it — April Fool’s Day.

1. I think it's a great idea.
I mean, who else are they going hang near the restroom?
