I nearly had a hemorrhage this morning...the wood pile is perilously thin (maybe three more weeks worth?)..and with all the snow we've had we are unable to make it back to our "cutting hole"..so we had no choice but to call the local co-op and have them bring out a minimum fill of propane. $523 for 200 gallons of the stuff (this is after a 9 cent/gallon drop in the price). So as I'm making out the check I'm chit-chatting with the driver and he tells me the last delivery of propane was in October of 2005! Now..that $500 really hurt, but I can't complain about nearly 2 1/2 years without a fillup. I guess my husband knew what he was talking about when we built that outdoor wood burner! Incidentally, the last fill up in October 2005 cost us $327 (for 200 gallons). I'm grateful that we could manage to pay for the fuel we got today (and even more grateful how much that wood burner has saved us) but I can't help wondering how other families are managing.
