Sometimes I just don't understand DU at all.

A few days ago there was a Hillary thread, someone asked if Hillary had "work done" - as in facial plastic surgery. It took about 4 seconds flat for DU to have an absolute meltdown because it's sexist to even NOTICE a woman has had "work done" let alone MENTION it.

There's a Coulter thread floating around where her having "work done" is mentioned, complete with comments about how low quality the work was. Not one comment about sexism in there. Crickets are louder.


I love DU, really. Even when we are being idiotic I love all ya'll. Seriously. But sometimes I just wish we'd make up our stinkin' mind regarding what's what.

However, I've also seen threads on McInsane's obvious Botox treatments, too, so I don't find it totally sexist.

What's sexist is basing a woman's worth entirely on her looks, something I find much more on the right than on the left. After all, we adored Bella Abzug and certainly never hired her for her looks, although she was presentably age appropriate.

I hope this has contributed to your understanding of DU. The people who jumped all over the Clinton "work done" post as sexist were wrong. It was shallow, but not sexist. The cultural attitude that drives working women to surgery is what is sexist.
