Unbearable human beings exist everywhere. So why should DU be any different?

For the most part, I try to not post unless I have something intelligent (or sometimes stupid) to say.

Yet, over the years, I have seen those who are not trolls, but regular DUers, who just can't wait to launch an attack on a post with which they disagree. And more often than not, such responses just reek of obnoxiousness.

Even though most such posts don't break DU rules, they are, nonetheless, ugly. I really don't need to name names here. Most regular DUers "get it." And if you are one of the people of whom I am speaking, you either know who you are, or you are badly in need of help.

So here's my suggestion to everyone else. Don't reply to hateful posts or those intended to get a rise out of you. Ignore them. Shun them. Treat them with the lack of respect they've earned.

I know the self-haters and/or pricks of the world will never go away. But perhaps we can make DU a place just a bit less rude than the rest of the world.

1. Ignore list works great!

I didn't used to believe in it, in fact I resisted it strenuously until I got a few reply threads nuked because I was arguing with some of the trolls a bit too hard.

I have 7 people on my ignore list, and it cuts 90% of the crap I see here(excluding GD: P...*shudder*).

Remember that these people get off on attention of any kind. Ignore them and they'll wither and die like vampires that forgot to put their shade down before sunset.

No, I won't rewrite G&S here. I do have a couple of people who are one nasty post away from hitting the iggie list.

My list remains very short, though, because few people last very long on it before being tombstoned, may they rest in pieces.

2. I've decided to treat them like I did my kids when they were

young and throwing a fit: completely ignore them. It's hard to have an argument with yourself and a tantrum without an audience is not much fun.

Honestly - there are some people who just SHOULD NOT post the stuff they post...over and over and over...

I suppose it does not excuse some of my more aberrant and anti-social posts, however. I do go out of my way to avoid direct insult and always back up my arguments, but this is no excuse, either.
