Congress conflicted on U.S.-Cuba relations

Billboard showing Cuban leader Fidel Castro in Havana
Florida politicians, especially Cuban-Americans, are used to bashing Castro.

Should Fidel Castro’s decision to step down as Cuba’s president be seen as a major development in U.S. relations with his country? It depends on which member of Congress you ask.

READ THE ARTICLE AND THEN READ THE COMMENTS ABOUT CUBANS IN MIAMI.

E.G. The U.S. Government has been kowtowing to the welfare- sucking Florida Cuban-American community since JFK was president. Hell! JFK and his brother Bobby had tried numerous assassination attempts against Fidel...that were as successful as the Bay of Pigs invasion.

1. If you are as left wing as I am, you will be sent romantic dates. No kidding!!
For 15 years I had no romantic dates. Starting in 2000, without any plastic surgery, dozens of men started flirting with me. No kidding. This is what conservatives are doing to us who are left wing = marrying us. No kidding. This is a way to control us. I am so shocked, but what they are doing is real. There is a campaign by right-wing conservatives to date us. Most left wing people are happy for the attention but they never realized it was not coincidence. These encounters were planned!

2. Wouldn't the use of the Rack or the Iron Maiden be preferable to dating a winger? n/t

3. Interesting As To How Connies View Cuban Americans
It's interesting to read how right-wingers view Cuban-Americans, even the ones in their ranks. Excluding the remnants of the Cosmic Commie Killers and those active Castro-hating Cuban-Americans who post there, the kindest thing that many of them can say is that a small minority of voters has wrenched the direction of US foreign policy to their interests, and the comments often get ruder after that. If I were a Cuban-American active in Republican Party politics, I'd be worrying that I was losing friends and political allies.

Interestingly enough, at least some of the conservative posters and I seem to see eye to eye on the travel restrictions for the same reason--across the political spectrum we agree that the travel restrictions are an infringement on American liberties, and these days a highly anachronistic and unnecessary one as well.

Here's food for thought for right-wing lurkers reading this text--you DON'T have to love the Castros to oppose the US federal government's travel restrictions for American citizens who wish to visit Cuba. Even many DU'ers don't love the Castros and aren't that impressed with the economic and political developments in the island republic since 1959. Why don't we all get together and tell our party chieftains to dump the travel ban? Afterwards we can go back to bashing each other.
