Stunning view in Seattle. I was coming back from Victoria on the Clipper and watched the whole first half, climaxing as we came into view of downtown. It was fantastic.

9. It has been hard to see since we have intermittent broken clouds moving overhead.
But I was able to get a few peeks here!
Here is my amateur photos of tonights show I had to wait for the clouds to part as it is not clear here so I could not get the whole thing.

17. The planet Saturn and the bright bluish star, Regulus
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 11:31 PM by sce56
Total triangle http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20080215/sc_space/viewersguidetotallunareclipsefeb20

Moreover, this eclipse comes with a rare bonus. The planet Saturn (magnitude +0.2) and the bright bluish star, Regulus (magnitude +1.4) will form a broad triangle with the moon's ruddy disk.

Careful watchers will notice the moon changing its position with respect to the star and planet as it moves eastward through the Earth's shadow.

Saturn's position will also depend somewhat on your location. Seen from North America, the great ringed planet will be 3.5 degrees above and to the left of the moon's center at mid-totality (3:26 Universal time February 21st). At the same moment, Regulus will sit just 2.8 degrees above and to the right of the moon.

I am just getting started with my Canon Rebel and didn't get anything close to this... can you help me out with what your settings were, what your lens was, etc. Really want to get better at photography, but not getting too far along as of yet.

Thanks!

40. Well I used my EOS Rebel XTI
with a 75-300 Telephoto and a tripod
Here were the settings

To be honest I used purely auto and I got lucky as I have not had time to read all the manuals for this camera!

41. Thanks
I have a Rebel XT and was using the TV setting with shutter speed at up and down the scale. Started at 4 and eventually went to 4K to get anything at all. Lens was the same as yours, also used a tripod on some shots others were just hand held or over the arm steadied on the car, but had a devil of a time with the auto focus. I haven't downloaded yet, but hope to do so today. (we are having a charming ice storm and the commute is not too fun).

Took a class at the local camera store but found it to be pretty useless, leaving more confused than I was when I went in. (although I did learn about archival CD's for storage)

Much Appreciated!

42. Do you mean gold CD-RW's for storage that will last?
That was what I was told to use. My biggest problems were there is no attachment to push the button remotely on the rebel and a lot of my shots were ghosted due to that factor I suppose I could use a photo edit program to remove the ghosting maybe even cut in a palm tree or something. The other problem I had was weather I got a lucky bfreak with the clouds that night, last night and even today we are socked in with lots of liquid coming down! I think this is going to be a record year for rain here especialy when you consider last year was one of the dryest on record for Los Angeles.

43. Yup,
The gold CD-RW's and the pens that go with them was what was discusses in class. Being rather uniformed I was using the Office Depot brand and a Sharpie, but I do have everything backed up on 2 computers and 2 backup drives so I don't feel too bad. It was exceptionally cold here in St. Louis that night. Very clear, but freezing my A** off outside. I was working with a buddy who has the same camera via cell phone and we were discussing settings and such as we took the pics. The bad thing was the shake when pressing the button and trying to change settings with one ear on the phone and no light to figure out the camera settings. My shots were directly over a Target store about a block from my house and I may have picked up light from it as well. Oh, well a good chance to experiment with the camera and learn about what it can do.
Last two days we have had a sleet/snow thing going on and it's been the pits for driving.... Good thing we had a clear night for the eclipse.

29. I sing second soprano
in a large Episcopal parish. Our anthems for Sunday are Byrd's "Ave Verum Corpus" and Palestrina's "Sicut Cervus." (No, we don't ALWAYS sing in Latin.)

36. Jesus! (no pun intended), that is some serious business...
How long do you set up for that kind of movement?

How long in advance do you start working on that?

Do you record them?

I would love to hear them.

37. Those two pieces were already part of the choir's standard repertoire
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 01:23 AM by Lydia Leftcoast
when I joined four years ago. We have a couple dozen oldies but goodies that we've sung at least once a year so far.

The choir is audition-only, and you have to be able to sight-sing, but the first year is what I referred to as "choir boot camp," because I got thrown into singing all these anthems that most people already knew. I even bought a keyboard so that I could practice at home.

Now I know all the standard anthems, but when we learn new pieces, we don't get that much warning, a month at most for ordinary services and two months for concerts. We do sing three concerts a year, the main service every Sunday September through June, one evensong per month, and special services on religious holidays.

Everyone can sight-sing (some more than others), so we don't have to spend a lot of time during rehearsals learning parts. When we get a new piece of music, we muddle through it as best we can, and then our director goes back, tells us where to breathe and what dynamics to use, how to pronounce some of the words, and who had difficulty on what parts. We then run the difficult parts and then the whole piece once again. That's all till the next rehearsal, usually.

We rehearse one night a week and then for 45 minutes before services. If we need extra rehearsals, the paid section leaders arrange and conduct them.

We have not recorded since I joined, but I think we ought to. Ocelot and GAspnes, who have heard the choir, would probably agree.

Yes, it's a major time commitment, but I wouldn't do it if I didn't love it.

30. Of course you are, dear friend. I'm finishing up my latest project
Tomorrow afternoon I embrace the interns who have volunteered their time to make the 3/2 launch. It's been fun working from home, keeping odd hours ... but I remember when I was 16, looking up at the Catskills sky ... knowing it would be a long time before I would have the chance again.

Drink it in - the bright city awaits with her delights.

I "talked" to a few of them, earlier.

But it was beautiful here on the Bay.

I hiked up to the ridge for the one in November.

Just me and the moon for a couple of hours.

Funny, you know....

I have long thought that I was on your you-know-what list.
