Independece Day Quiz
http://games.toast.net/independence/

24 out of 30 is considered a passing score.

Supposedly 96% of all High School seniors FAILED this test and, if that's not bad enough, 50+% of all individuals over 50 did too!!

I got 28.

Didn't know who was born in TX (I knew GW wasn't.) And how many amendments were proposed but never ratified.

13. The only reason I knew it was Eisenhower is because he grew up in my state
That was a hard question.

17. I knew it was Eisenhower, also
But not just because I'd been to his boyhood home in Denison.

16. This is 8th grade stuff - sad
I got 29 out of 30. #22 is the hardest question and fairly irrelevant.

You should not be allowed to graduate from HS in the US without getting at least half of these correct. That is one of the big problems with our country right now, total unabashed ignorance of our history, government and Constitution. I suppose a large chunk of that 96% are proud of their ignorance since it is so cool.

18. Sad, huh?
Ever ask anyone who their STATE senators and reps are??? I can tell you, that in my experience, most people have -0- clue. In fact, most are not sure of who are the two US Senators from their state and who is the US Congressman from their District.

I guess I am might be more into shit like this than the majority of people...but to have NO clue who the hell is at least of one of the US Senators from your state? Unreal in my book!

21. My eighth graders would have done well up until the amendments
High schools teach the biggies like 13, 14, 15, 19, etc. But honestly you don't get into the more obscure amendments unless you take Constitional Law in college, which I did, but that was in the early 80s, so I missed the one about last amendment being ratified in 92.

19. I managed a 25
Questions like the exact number of amendments, the last year an amendment was passed, how many amendments had been proposed by Congress, etc., certainly weren't things I knew very well. And I got some right by lucky guess, like Eisenhower being born in Texas (I only knew for certain that Bush wasn't).

Missed the question about what year was the last ammendment to the Constitution passed. Not bad, but then again, I teach history and government, so I better do well!

23. 29 - probably because as a foreigner I learned this formally!
I was wrong on the unratified amendments (answered 12 rather than 6) and my Texas response was a lucky guess.
