I'm down with Telecom Immunity....
Since they are just being patriots after 9/11....Lets offer to immunize that and triple ALL damages for any violation of Constitutional rights prior to the first airplane hitting in NY....But since we hear they were setting this up in February 2001 I doubt they will accept...

1. I think that corporations should face the death penalty
All assets of the corporation seized and sold. All stock to lose 100% value.

I think this would change the face of corporations in America.

2. Bingo...
....if most major telecoms violated US law than the result should be that they are sued to the point of zero stock value and then allowed to operate as non-profits...with close public control of compensation.

5. That is a compelling idea
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 10:40 AM by realpolitik
though since stock value is at least in theory market driven, value would have to be set to zero by fiat.

After that, I could issue bonds like any other civic org. but it could not sell stock and it could not pay dividends.

That would pretty much kill big telco, because only niche providers would be able to compete with that. And I approve of this idea.

Let's take this one step further.

Not only should we put teeth back in media frequency licensure, but all media outlets in all for profit venues should submit the same sort of proof of community service and fairness that stations would again do to keep their frequencies.

Now let's take that one step further...

All businesses in the US with more than 20 employees are required to show proof of community service every other year or face financial penalties. It could be something as simple as donations to local food kitchens or cleaning a highway section for the year. It could be donations to local health clinics or disaster relief.

If you don't act like a citizen, you don't get corporate personhood. You act like a traitor and we put a bullet through your charter.

4. Not just violations prior to 9/11... but any program started prior to
9/11 should incur triple damages per violation. Then I'd be down with immunity too.
