Racist Attacks on Obama Growing More Heated
February 20, 2008

With the selection of Barack Obama as the first black Democratic nominee for president seeming more possible by the day, racists and white supremacists are posting increasingly ugly and even threatening remarks on the Internet.

1] “OBAMA WILL DIE, KKK FOREVER,” concludes a <2> Feb. 15 post by “Rodney” to a blog run by a person identified only as Strider333. Above that signoff, Rodney wrote: “The KKK or someone WILL assassinate Obama! If we get a NIGGER President all you NIGGER’s will think you’ve won and that the WHITE people will have to bow to you<.> FUCK THAT.”

On traditional white supremacist and neo-Nazi sites (for instance, <3> here and <4> here), there are lengthy discussion threads about what would happen if Obama were elected president. Dozens of those posts are derogatory and employ all kinds of racist slurs. Others speculate that such an Obama victory would kick off a race war between whites and blacks. And some even raise the possibility that he could be assassinated. But talk like that is rare and extremely careful — probable evidence that the “white nationalists” who inhabit these sites are deeply concerned that their comments are being monitored by law enforcement for any criminal threat relating to the presidential race. In fact, Obama reportedly received federal Secret Service protection unusually early in the campaign season because of concerns about a racially motivated attack.

The most heated anti-Obama talk appears to be on Internet sites that allow people to post messages anonymously. One such site, JD Underground, is a list ostensibly devoted to lawyers, although further details were not available. It has carried a particularly venomous thread, entitled <5> “Nigger President,” that has stretched from January into this month.

“I’m hoping someone will do his public duty of putting a bullet through Obama’s head,” said a poster identified as “Kill Da Nigga.” Another poster suggests “bring back lynchings” and concludes with a warning: “LOOK OUT NIGGER. THE KLAN IS GETTING BIGGER!!!!!!” And a third, using the screen name “amerikkkan,” says only, “The deep south is making plans.”

1. These types talk big
but the KKK is an embarrassment to Southerners. I know that is the case where I live in Arkansas. But I know it takes only one nutcase to do harm. Hope they never get the chance.

27. Eh, people on the Internet talk big.
Even on DU, certainly possessed of a far more enlightened group of posters than any that would post messages such as that in the OP, one can find a laundry list of posts that, obviously, DUers would never say to someone face-to-face.

32. IIRC Obama is not yet eligible for Secret Service protection
He wouldn't become eligible until after he is officially chosen as the Democrat's nominee at the convention.

Hillary is eligible for Secret Service protection as she is Bill Clinton's husband, and his SS protection eligibility for him and his immediate family does not expire until 2011.

Used to be Ex Presidents aand their immediate family had SS protection for life, but Bill Clinton signed a law that changed it to 10 years after their last day in office. IIRC, Poppy and Jimmy Carter still have SS protection due to a grandfather clause.

3. These rabid racist remarks are horrid & shameful .. they should have known
they'd get considerable blow-back for twice electing a coke-snorting petulant frat boy whose latent racism
is so thinly disguised that it reared it's ugly head in wake of Katrina.

Screw them. Grow up you KKK assholes and get a life.

4. This is what racism looks like. Nothing the Clinton camp was accused of comes even close.
Saying the media has created a fairy tale concerning Obama's anti-war record isn't racist.
Saying the media will have tough questions about Obama's admitted drug use isn't racist.
Saying that MLK worked with LBJ isn't racist.
Using the term "spade work" isn't racist.
The Clintons are not racists.

/eom.

20. Searching the hundreds of thousands of words in the thousands of statements
by hundreds of people connected in some way with one candidate's campaign to seek put the few phrases that could be presented as "questionable" - to only come up with the little bits that the Obama Swiftboat Crew pretended were "evidence"? That's not "subtle", that's trivial down to the degree of pure fantasy.

21. In my personal opinion...
as a white person, it's not for me to dismiss subtle racism against black people as "trivial" and "fantasy."

22. It's up to *you* to define what is and is not "subtle racism"?
Here's the Obama Camp's memo on what they managed to come up with to Swiftboat the Clintons on Race in South Carolina with:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/01/12/obama-camps-memo-on-clin_n_81205.html
Now compare that to the content in the OP.
Now read this:
This (the OP) is what racism looks like.
Now read this:
The Clintons are not racists, and shame on you for pretending they are.

25. Pfff.
That memo was simply a collection of reports from the media on the Clintons sticking their feet in their mouths on race issues.

Shame on you for blaming Obama for the Clintons screwing up.

Report: Security relaxed at Obama speech
Published: Feb. 21, 2008 at 6:27 PM

DALLAS, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The Secret Service told Dallas police to stop screening for weapons while people were still arriving at a campaign rally for Barack Obama, a report said.

Police stopped checking people for weapons at the front gates of Reunion Arena more than an hour before the Democratic presidential hopeful appeared on stage Wednesday, the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported.

Police said the order to stop using metal detectors and checking purses and laptop bags constituted a security lapse, the newspaper reported.

Dallas Deputy Police Chief T.W. Lawrence -- who heads the department's homeland security and special operations divisions -- told the Star-Telegram the order had been intended to speed up seating of the more than 17,000 people who came to hear the candidate speak.

Lawrence said he was concerned about the large number of people being let in without being screened, but that the crowd seemed "friendly," the newspaper said.

Several Dallas police officers -- speaking on condition of anonymity because the order came from federal officers -- told the newspaper it was worrying to see so many people get it without even a cursory inspection.

The Star-Telegram said the Secret Service did not return a call seeking comment.

General Hate

73 Hate Groups Found

» Read a list of hate incidents

The organizations in this category are subdivided into six smaller categories. They include anti-gay groups, organizations that go beyond mere disagreement with homosexuality by subjecting gays and lesbians to campaigns of personal vilification; Holocaust denial groups that insist that Nazi Germany did not engage in a conscious attempt to commit genocide against European Jews; racist music groups, typically white power music labels that record, publish and distribute racist music in a variety of genres; and "radical traditionalist Catholic" groups, organizations that embrace anti-Semitism and whose theology is typically rejected by the Vatican and mainstream Catholics in general. A final "other" sub-category includes groups espousing a variety of hateful doctrines.

30. Never Underestimate These People
I grew up around these ingrates, and on my vacation home I overheard two of them speaking of the prospect of Hillary or Obama Taking Office.

"Well, I think they both need to be taken out and shot. They pose a threat to our country"

"Yeah, Obama's gonna let all the niggers kill us while he's takin' our guns away. Somethin's not gotta, but it's gonna be done about him"

"No doubt brother"

That's the conversation. You can't change these people and trying is a futile effort. They are much like the Serbs. They view the nation as the white mans and no one elses. It's going to be a very bumpy road if we get Obama as president, just because of these jokers.

there are just too many rabid racists in the U.S.A.

Crazies.

This is the one thing I fear most about Obama's candidacy and presidency. That some idiot / maniac will try to take him out.

It worries me a lot because our most wonderful leaders -- those who inspired love and hope -- have been the ones to be murdered.

kicked and rec'd
