Please save my computer from the harm it will suffer if I can't make Internet radio work....
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 04:26 PM by Lobster Martini
Really, I need help. I need radio.

I have been trying to make AOL radio work, and my conclusion is that it doesn't. I would be immeasurably grateful if somone could help me get Internet radio. Life is meaningless without blues. I need radio.

This is a cry for help.

4. Cheers--and thanks...
I am merely trying to use AOL radio, but it requires an ActiveX comonent that I apparently don't have, and the help instructions are useless. I'm not locked into AOL radio--I would be happy using anything else...I'm open to suggestions...

19. you might also need to go under "tools" and then "internet options"
and then "advanced" to find the Active X control. If your security is set at high, it will be disabled. You might already have the software, but you'll need to enable it.

7. Can you download iTunes?
Our LAN administrator downloaded it for me at the office and I listen to iTunes radio all the time - at work and at home.

22. Free programs?
The iTunes software is free, and listening to iTunes radio is free. The only cost that comes with iTunes is if you start purchasing music or movies for download. My husband buys music, and sometimes I'll rent or buy a movie. But not much.

I LOVES my iTunes radio.

I use it equally easily on my Windows PC at the office, or on my iMac at home. Never a problem.

8. Try Shoutcast. It runs through Winamp.
Get Winamp here.

Then search Shoutcast for blues, and pick a station to stream with at least a bitrate of no less than 96. Choose higher than 128 if there are any for better than FM quality.

10. live365.com; npr.org (they have general music programs including World Cafe); pri.org
I listen most of the time at work to drown out background noise (I recently had to start sharing an office at each workplace).

20. Will try it tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion. Try the WXPN blues show...
There's a very good blues show on WXPN in Philadelphia on Saturday nights as well...I have been listing to it for as long as I can remember...if you like blues, it's worth the time.

16. I'm not sure if this will help, but I get along fine with internet radio w/o AOL
Here are a few locations where you can perhaps find stations (online, live) all over the world...:-).

http://www.live-tv-radio.com/

On the left column, you'll see a format - if you select "jazz", it will list a page full of jazz/blues stations you should be able to access online from around the world. Samples are:
Radio Blues, from Prague, Czech Republic; Cool Blue from Auckland, New Zealand (both use Windows Media player) and a couple of dozen jazz stations from the U.S.

You might also look over: http://www.tvradioworld.com and http://www.mikesradioworld.com

These are just a few suggestions. . .

17. Best thing to do is install Winamp
They have a large selection of web radio stations on Shoutcast. Most radio stations that stream use Winamp as one of the formats. It's the gold standard that Real Player started out to be before they got greedy, were bought by AOL, and tried to go subscription for most of their features.
