Honest Question: Why do TV and Radio economists keep saying we are the wealthiest nation
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 06:27 PM by Mike03
on the planet?

I'm no expert, but from what I have read and studied, this is a bald faced lie.

We are NOT an economically healthy nation.

We do NOT have an abundance of exports or valuable goods.

We are NOT well educated.

We have borrowed trillions of dollars from foreign nations, or sold them real property within our borders to help settle debts that are probably, in the long run, unsettleable.

What am I missing?

Are we really healthy or really sick?

Or, to put it more succinctlly, Are we not bankrupt? That is the fact, isn't it?

I thought I finally had this figured out, but apparently not, according to the talk-show idiots, who say everything is fine.

Or maybe I'm missing something, because DUers I respect maintain that we are not in the bad situation we appear to be.

Please convince me that things are not as bad as they appear.

2. Because we are.
Wealth refers to the means of production. Don't confuse economics with finance.

4. Our manufacturing base has been dismantled.
What makes you think we lead the world when it comes to "means of production?"

3. I have the same questions - but some of the responses have helped me understand
somewhat.

BUT...

I do happen to believe things are as bad as they appear.

5. To keep us asleep a while longer.
I know that your question was rhetorical, but I felt like I should say it anyway.

The elite have gone too far this time, and it will be impossible to gloss over it.

As you know, we are overwhelmingly dominant in one- and only one- area.

6. Because the us economy
generates more wealth than any nation that has ever existed. We are many times larger than the nearest nation in GDP and are responsible for the majority of the driving power behind the world economy.

Bottom line we are the alpha and omega in global markets. A bad administration should not make you worry, over time the us markets always go up and always create wealth.

It is a amazing thing.
