Turns Out There IS More To The "Times" McCain Story
DemocracyNow! interviews a lawyer who represented the other side in the FCC matter in which John McCain interfered (as was referred to in the Times article yesterday), so much so that he was scolded by FCC Commissioners. It turns out that John "Mr Clean" McCain is simply Tom Delay with a war record. Trying to influence a TV station license sale decision in Pittsburgh is odd because, as a senator from Arizona, he has no connection to the matter other than through his relationship (professional or otherwise) with lobbyist Vicki Iseman, who represented a company trying to buy a license reserved for public broadcasting. At the time he also chaired the committee that set the FCC budget and provided Congressional oversight. The link goes to a trasnscript and streaming audio of the interview.

2. The guy's as crooked as a dog's hind leg . . .
and has sucked on the "K Street" lobbyists' teat for nearly a quarter of a century.

Hell, he's been sucking on the government's teat since birth, what with his father and grandfather being lifetime Navy men and admirals, and himself as a Naval Academy legacy finishing near the bottom of his class.

AFAIK, the only private sector experience he has is his marrying into money (his 2nd wife).

Face it, he's a shitheel.

5. The arrogance and self delusion of politicians
never ceases to amaze. You might think that a guy who narrowly missed being censured in the Keating affair might be prompted to examine his conscience before running for president. Anything in there that might arouse suspicion? Anything that might tear a big gaping hole in my carefully constructed "mister clean" image? Anything that might get voters talking about my checkered past and blow my campaign sky high? It makes you wonder how firm a grip McCain has on reality.

8. McCain Was The Commerce Committee Chair
For most of the 90s and until '06...the ranking Repugnican on the committee that oversees the FCC...the approval of its commissioners, the funding of the agency and approval of any major rulemaking. He was the gatekeeper for what would get commission attention and the commissioners were sure to answer the phone when the "good" Senator was on the line.

This is similar to the phone calls his good friend Domenici made to David Igelsias last year to push for indictments prior to the '06 elections. Iserman stroked McCain with the attention, power and money funneled from her many big communications clients.

10. it's especially telling
when somebody goes to bat for an entity outside their state.

Like when Don Young (i think it was him) put in an earmark for something in Florida.

12. Yikes!! I always thought they were trying to de-fund PBS because they were ignorant assholes....
afraid of The Count (harder to steal elections while children continue to learn that 2+2=4), Bert and Ernie's happy, completely non-threatening domestic partnership and all that multi-ethnic fraternization (shudder) on Sesame Street. Oh, and the science programs.

The profit motive never hit my radar - They want to sell the bandwidth.
