Is Google giving out your home address complete with a map??

Try typing your phone number into the search bar.If you are unlucky like I am,it gives your home address along with a mapquest map.You can block your phone number, but it takes 48 hrs to take effect.I hope it hasn't happened to any of the rest of you,but you might want to have a look.

(http://www.google.com/) Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours.

Check your own number and although this may not apply to you if you have an unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, but you may know someone who needs to know this.

Pretty thoughtful of Google to do this for us huh?

3. I knew that was feature was there but didn't realize one could remove it as I just did
It was pointing to a place where we've never lived so I wasn't worried about it but in 48 hrs I should not have a listing at all. now I'm going to check our cell phones and see if they have a link

Thanks for the info ;-)

4. I once had to remove my name and take other measures to hide from a stalker.
One thing I did was to plant fake addresses in the On-Line white pages.

The guy started posting my real name (and fake address) into internet chat rooms.

Since he had the wrong address, it delayed be a few months how long it would take for him to locate my real address.

Somewhere, there is a church in town that probably still gets mail addressed to me.

5. Does it switch to Google Earth
and give you an aerial photo of your rooftop?

When I Google Earth my address I can see which car is in my driveway and people walking around on the street.

I typed in our old phone number and it took me to some results. I clicked the first one (it listed my husband's name, our address and phone number) and it took me to a satellite view of the block we used to live on with a little yellow person. I clicked on the person and it took me a street level view our old block and an approximate address. I panned back and saw my old Mazda parked on the street. I noticed there was a way to pan to either side and I did. That's when I saw my husband's Honda parked in the driveway. That was freaky.

6. My number has been unlisted since the beginning, I think...
...and nothing turns up when Googling it. That's pretty cool.

18. You have to use other sites to get unlisted numbers
They are still mostly available, even most cell and unlisted numbers can be searched. Might cost you a few dollars for the hard-to-find ones.

The maps.google street view option is somewhat disturbing, more so than the aerial photos. Phone number to 360-degree picture of house in about three mouse clicks. It almost feels like I should be able to check the mail in my mailbox!

8. Technically, this isn't much different than a phone book.
And Google just incorporated the phone book data.

None of this is new. It's just faster.

I do understand the stalking concerns however.

10. You have no fucking clue, my phone number is listed as a Greek restaurant in Google!
"Hello, is this (greek restaurant)?"

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure."

"Are you sure you're sure?"

"Well, I don't know, let me look around a little while and see if I find a greek restaurant in here somewhere, if I do, I'll be sure to call you back."

"Thanks."

"No, problem."

(click)

"Stupid bitch."

You can do a virtual walk around of your neighborhood (It's not active in all cities yet).
