FDA ties pneumonia deaths to infant vaccine ~ MSNBC
WASHINGTON - GlaxoSmithKline Plc's rotavirus vaccine is associated with increased pneumonia-related deaths and other adverse reactions, U.S. regulatory staff said in documents posted on Friday.

The review comes ahead of a Food and Drug Administration advisory meeting next Wednesday to consider approval of the oral vaccine to prevent the most common cause of severe diarrhea and dehydration among infants and young children in the world.

FDA staff said its analysis of 11 studies revealed that in the largest trial, there was a statistically significant increase in deaths related to pneumonia compared with placebo, documents posted on the FDA's Web site said.

That study, which enrolled about 63,000 children, also found an increase in convulsions in children given the drug, named Rotarix. Another study found an increased rate of bronchitis, compared with placebo.

While some people would rather this kind of information not be shared, I felt this was too important not to. Especially given this seemingly conflicting "update" from the DOW JONES NEWSWIRES?

1. We need to look at statistics in examining the vaccine issue
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 02:44 PM by truedelphi
No more Hep vaccinations (mandatory) for day old infants.

No more hastily approved vaccines for everything from a case of mild ear infection to grumpy baby syndrome.

We need to think about what Japan does regarding vaccines: they wait until the baby is two years old before administering the first shot.

Google Michael Belkin and Hepatitis vaccinations for more information.

5. Where did they get the 63,000 test children?
This is what troubles me.

A few years back there was an ad in the Jacksonville Newspaper looking for child test subjects for pesticides. The outcry from the public stopped the testing, but who knows they probably went ahead somehow anyway.

"The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), led by Bush appointees, is seeking input on a new proposed study in which infants in participating low income families will be monitored for health impacts as they undergo exposure to known toxic chemicals over the course of two years. The study entitled Children’s Environmental Exposure Research Study (CHEERS) will look at how chemicals can be ingested, inhaled or absorbed by children ranging from babies to 3 years old.

For taking part in these studies, each family will receive $970, a free video camera, a T-shirt, and a framed certificate of appreciation."

7. I seriously doubt they are deliberately exposing any of these children to toxic chemicals.
More likely, they are taking periodic blood and/or urine tests and taking samples of dust, dirt, paint, etc. for chemicals.

But I can see why people would worry about this, based on the recent history of the FDA.

8. You need to contact Senator Barbara Boxer's office about this
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 05:08 PM by truedelphi
The deal was this: the pesticide industry wanted human guinea pigs for theirr trials of the effects of pesticides. Where better to draft such guinea pigs than by targeting the poorer among us.

They decided that they would offer a video camera to parents who allowed their homes to be sprayed with pesticides (against things like ants and roaches)

If you kept your child in the program, you got to keep the camera. As long as you video-taped the child over the course of the program.

What this meant was that dangerous chemicals were used in households where usually such things are not used (As someone who has multichemical sensitivities - I used to deliberately live in poorer neighborhoods - less lawn chems and fertilizers, less household chems - people don't have the money for that stuff.)

The sad thing is - there are now extremely effective ways to manage roaches and ants without harmful chems. But the poor people in this study are not among those educated about this.

Anyway Barbara Boxer has been ballistic about this. I don't know what happened - it has been over four or five years since these types of programs were proposed. I saw several YouTube's of her impassioned rants against Big Pesticide - but never heard what effect her ranting had.

10. Sen. Boxer threaten to hold up EPA confirmation
Barbara Boxer as Erin Brockovich

It’s good to know that some senators are doing their research on President Bush’s nominees. Senator Boxer was the star of yesterday’s confirmation hearing for Stephen Johnson, Bush’s nominee to lead the EPA. She dug up information on a little-known program being sponsored by the EPA and the American Chemistry Council in Duval County, Florida.

The program targets low-income African-American families and asks parents to videotape their children crawling around a pesticide-infested environment (their homes). Scientists watch the tapes and regularly test the babies for pesticide exposure. In return, the families can keep the video camera and are paid $970 over two years.

~snip~

Sen. Boxer responded to Johnson’s affirmation that the program had been suspended but not cancelled by saying, “… you should pull the plug on that program tomorrow and if you don’t, I’m going to do everything in my disposal to make that happen.” A single senator can hold up Johnson’s confirmation, and from Boxer’s remarks it appears that she is ready to take this one all the way.

24. " .... proposed Rules Allow Pesticide experiments on Children "
It is true, EPA certainly intended to, but it was stopped - hopefully not just temporarily. But then, we are all a grand experiment with the toxic untested chemicals.

EPA Exceptions to proposed Rules Allow Pesticide experiments on Children

- Baltimore Sun

Thu, 15 Sep 2005

"For the first time in our nation's history, the EPA has proposed a program to allow for the systematic and everyday experimentation of pesticides on humans," said Congressman Henry A. Waxman, a leading critic of the testing policies. "Moreover, the proposed program is riddled with ethical loopholes."

The Environmental Protection Agency's proposed rules for pesticide testing in human beings deserve to be alongside the Nuremberg Laws of 1935. (Those laws lent an air of legitimacy to racial discrimination, and ultimately, to the Holocaust.

The Baltimore Sun reports that after EPA's document makes an obligatory declaration, "We regard as unethical and would never conduct, support, require or approve any study involving intentional exposure of pregnant women, infants or children to a pesticide," the agency opens the gates wide to experimental atrocities on children.

If not stopped by Congress, the EPA would permit the following:

1. Pesticide experiments on "abused or neglected" children--without permission from parents or guardians.

In other words, Stephen Johnson, EPA's chief thinks "abused or neglected" children are the perfect subjects for the pesticide industry's poisonous experiments - one step above pests, flees, and rodents.

2. "Ethically deficient" human research is permissible if it is considered crucial to "protect public health."

3. More than minimal health risk to a subject if there is a "direct benefit" to the child being tested, and the parents or guardians agree.

What "direct benefit" could be derived from pesticides to a child - or any human being? Pesticides are poisonous compounds whose purpose is to kill. Pesticides do not to provide a "direct benefit" to those exposed--pesticides are not medicine.

4. The EPA will accept overseas industry studies, which are admittedly performed in countries that have no ethical standards, as long as the tests are not done directly for the EPA.

In other words, EPA will provide the government mantle to launder odious, unethical experiments on desperate people who have no choice.

If EPA's proposed rules areallowed to be implemented, the US governmentwill beas complicityin criminal human experimentation as were the Nazi doctors who were tried by a US tribunal at Nuremberg in 1947.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<SNIP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Oh... so it's o.k. to select only "abused and neglected" children to be experimented on.

Note: The original attempt to test pesticides on kids was done in poor neighborhoods in Jacksonville, FL. The children were contacted directly at school and were told they would receive gifts and prizes if they participated. They brought home literature to the parents saying that if they participated that they would be given certain toys, gifts, etc.

Beyond sick. This is evil.

6. Imagine how you'd feel if your baby died in that sort of study.
I can, though my sister died of an approved vaccine (the old "whole cell" DTP vaccine). I wonder where the study was conducted?

They better not approve this vaccine yet -- much less mandate it here. If testing is going to continue anywhere, it should be in a country where deaths from diarrhea are actually a big problem, and that isn't the case here.

12. I can't imagine.
Especially if I had to hear how "safe" the vaccine is in spite of lingering questions. Rotavirus is ultimately responsible for 20-60 deaths in the US annually. It will be interesting to watch how they sell a mandate.

Again, I'm so sorry about your sister. :(

15. Babies are already poisoned by mom's exposure
to ubiquitous chemicals that have NEVER been tested and easily cross the placenta.

Tante Karenina's unsolicited advice, worth what you paid for it, now that her autistic son has graduated from college:

1. If you're planning a family, DETOX. Educate yourself on environmental toxins. Get a blood test. CHECK OUT THAT CARPETING YOU JUST HAD INSTALLD!

2. Keep your infant ISOLATED in the first 6 weeks. Anyone who wants to hold or touch has to WASH THEIR HANDS first. UP TO THE ELBOWS.

3. Tell the doctors you're doing research. Then DO IT and don't allow anyone to stick a syringe into your kid before 3 months. In my laymama's opinion, babies are being exposed to WAY TO MANY "potions" before their systems are developed enough to handle them.

4. EDUCATE YOURSELVES. Become EQUAL PARTNERS with the pediatricians charged with your children's health.

to mess with delicate, still-developing immune systems by injecting a bunch of toxins into infants.

I waited for my children to be much older before I allowed them to be vaccinated, and I was very selective as to which vaccines I deemed truly necessary.

It worked out quite well.

20. My son was born in 1975
At that time they were just starting with the multiple/combination vaccines. My pediatrician told me that he was not comfortable with the studies and that he would vaccinate my son with the old protocols. He said that would mean that he would give him the vaccinations one at a time with a two week interval in between. He told me that he was not comfortable at that time with the rapid vaccination schedule that they were proposing to Doctors at that time.

My son only got half of the vaccinations that were required at that time. He has been very healthy, not only as a child but as an adult.

When they were having their children, he asked what should he do. I told him to research this on his own. They decided not to vaccinate their kids and to wait until their immune systems had a chance to develop. So far, excellent. Those kids are so healthy. They don't catch any of the stuff that is going around. If they do get a cold, it is over within 2 days.

My daughter in law has a child from a previous relationship. That little girl was given every vaccination and she is sick all the time. It takes her forever to shake even a cold.

I try to stay out of the vaccination debate on DU, but I do think that people do need to research the data out there.

My argument on the Hepatitis C vaccine is that if your kid does come down with Hep. C you have more problems in your household, other than the fact that you didn't vaccinate the kid. The only way that is contracted is by sexual contact or intravenous drug use. So why does a child need to be vaccinated at birth?

I'm 52 and only got 2 vaccinations in my life. Very healthy here.

22. Were your grandchildren in daycare as infants?
My daughter didn't get a single cold during her first year, but she was at home with me. So I don't think that proves much of anything.

Would it be safe sending unvaccinated babies into daycare? That's the big question, in my mind.

Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 04:10 PM by truedelphi
European nations, which are able to have laboratories more fully independent of the major Big Pharma players, also are able to investigate more thoroughly all the ramifications of the "essential" vaccination program for newborns and infants.

Now comes word from this site:
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/2/23/vaccine-companies-investigated-for-manslaughter.aspx

I don't always beleive everything Mercola comes up with,I think in this case he's spot on.
